Ok, I know this setting exists and an LRE day 'forced' the car to reach this setting, but I have a question:
What type of sensor is used, and can I in some way trigger the sensor to make the car rise to extended height? (crawl under and press / knock something??).
And, does the car really go even higher if you use the internal switch as detailed in the handbook?
There's no point in this question, I don't NEED to go to extended height. I just want to see what it looks like! Although I could be tempted to reverse up close to my neighbours car before dropping the suspension and tow-bar onto their bonnet!!!Si

There isn't an extra sensor, it uses the suspension air gallery pressure sensors to detect a drop in pressure, together with the height sensors and wheel rotation sensors on each wheel, it usually takes about 40 seconds or so before extended mode will kick in, once in extended you can force an extra 35mm by putting your foot on the brake and operating the suspension height switch upwards until it 'bongs' at you and the message appears on the display..... be prepared for a nosebleed though, and take a ladder unless you have legs like a Giraffe

yep, jack one corner up (with the radio on) until you hear the suspension hiss, then remove the jack, on startup you'll get a message along the lines of "reset suspension height once clear of the obstacle" you can then apply the manual extension....

This is upper extended mode (when in extended mode put foot on brake and push lever etc)

I've just been out on the driveway for 10 mins and can't get it - what am I doing wrong???
is extended mode additional from off road mode?
I put the car in off road mode then put foot on brake and pushed my suspension height switch thingy for more than 40 secs and nothing...
Help me quick I NEED this in my life'06 D3 HSE

select Off -road height
then when grounding occurs IE jack
the suspension will go into extended mode and give message as described above.
when in extending mode use foot on brake and press sus lever up

As I understand it, extended mode only occurs when the vehicle is grounded so sitting on your drive with the foot brake on and the lever up wont activate it. Its a sort of extra bit in case but it's there in case and therfore not the norm. The Super extended bit just pumps all up to max for, wella little bit more.D3 HSE V8...
Maybe my memory is failing, but on my LRE day the driver put the car up on a ramp and the car went into Extended Mode but I am sure it was only at the back!
Do back and front work independently in extended mode?

Fooling it into thinking it's grounded must occur in off road height > the vehicle will automatically apply extended mode (you have no control over this) > you can then try the upper extended mode bit with the brakes and lever.

Do whaqt I do. Put the car in off-road height. Get a solid block of wood that will just fit under the chassis rails. Jump in hte car and lower to normal height. The car will sense the obstruction and go into extended mode. You can now use the manual over-ride (as described above)to get to emergency profile.
Oh, and remember to retrieve your piece of wood!!
