Should I buy a Disco 3?
Looking to replace our family car and just got back from a 1.5 hour test drive of an 05 plate Disco 3. I really like them, my wife isn't so sure, probably preferring the Audi A6 we test drove.
You guys are the experts, being owners of these vehicles. I would love to hear your opinion of them. I read that owners are increasingly having reliability issues with them. Is this true ? Also what changes were made to the model between 04 and 09? We previously drove an 08 model and both of us thought the 05 had a different, more sparse interior but aren't sure if this was just down to the different colour (05 was black leather, the 08 was light beige leather. Both were HSEs). Also the 05 was pulling quite a lot to one side which didnt help to feel relaxed driving it. Presume this is just an alignment issue and nothing more sinister.
Should we only buy after a particular year due to some new feature or reliability issue being fixed ?
Love to hear your opinions please.

05 model and 08 had different leather seats and slightly different interior features.
If your worried about budget the Audi A6 might give you less hassles but that is a big unknown, you might be really unlucky, or lucky.
Either way, now you have found a Land Rover Discovery 3 forum you will have the best knowledge and backup there is

Look at the post "look left look right opps" think that will give you your answer.
They are great cars and do have issues but no more then most other cars. People very rarely post positive replies on forums. I have had two and love both.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Absolutely, my wife was a little worried about the size, not being used to handling big tools, but now i can hardly get the keys of her.
Just as an aside a friend of mine bought an a4 08 reg audi approved it was low milage etc, it has spent more time in the dealers than him driving it.
At least if the disco gives you grief you come on here and get sorted pretty soon.
go on have a dr pepper whats the worst that can happen,
ps i think ours is fabarooney.

The wife an I are going to look at our first D3 (hopefully) tommorrow.
So far we've looked at Audio A6, Volvo XC90/70, Jag XF, a few People Carriers etc etc, and the D3 is winning so far.
Go for it 8)

Thanks for so many replies in so little time. This forum is even busier than my Lotus forum (my other car is a Lotus Elise).
My wife just doesn't seem to get it at the moment. I just find the visibility and relaxed nature of the car fantastic.
Is it worth paying 23k for an 05 plate at a dealer or go private and use the money towards things going wrong ? In otherwords, is the dealer warranty worth paying so much for ?

What dealer you been to? Hunters?
Yep, Hunters. Very helpful guy there called Stuart. Apart from price I'm have some concerns about the car but difficult to put my finger on what exactly. The car was pulling but also my wife said, and I agree, it just didnt seem to have the same ride quality as the first 08 plate car we drove. Not sure why and whether we are imagining it.
