mmm....I've just been wading through the 11 page thread about suspension failure. Blimey loads of you have had problems with your air suspension, many not being able to resolve it without multiple trips to the dealers and many £1000s. Please tell me this unusual otherwise I'm getting very put off ownership !

The dangers of forums - tends to highlight the problems Confused Also I drove an 06 Disco 3 today and an 09 Disco 3 on Friday. The 06 felt a bit more wallow'y around the bends and my wife also commented on this. I gather there were some software updates which tightened up the suspension. How can I check what version of the software a car is running ?

Not sure - someone with more knowledge will be along shortly but I think software upgrade was done in 06 - I know mine was - cannot comment past that
What I can say is I bought my D3 in March 05 and fell in love with it - some issues - nothing to get to excited about
Bought D4 in March - did not even think about another type Thumbs Up

Usually LR flash the D3 with the Updates on services, so if a D3 is upto date on servicing, I would hope (but not assume) thats its been done.

Bought one !!!! Just agreed to buy private one for sale. After a number of test drives where my wife was far from convinced, when we drove this one she was really taken by it. Collecting in a couple of weeks. Can't wait !!

Should buy one here in Ireland.
You will get them much cheaper as we have very high tax rates. They cost over €60,000 (£49,000) new as a passenger. Road tax comes in at 2000 euro. All this to help the enviroment...

But If you buy a commercial, which cost the same as a passenger in the uk you will buy them for around 9000- 12000 for a 05. A commercial has no back seats etc. However it's very easy to refit them and you wont be liable of VRT of around €30000 for doing so.
The seats/ belts were removed and destoryed upon arriving in Ireland in order to qualify for this cheaper tax. However as you will be using it in the UK you would have no problem reinstalling the same.

Thats just my 2 cents....

You did a good thing and your wife won't find the D3 to big. My wife didn't like to drive my Disco 1 Camel but she doesn't mind driving the D3 Evil or Very Mad To be honest for shopping she still prefers her Volvo V50 Twisted Evil
The only problem is now that the volvo hardly makes miles anymore, last year only 5000 km. Now she want me to take the Volvo with me to southern Germany for work. Big Cry

Problems? I had 3 months waranty from Nene Overland. I had a nice list after 3 months. They fixed everything, even better then I expected. And no problem there after and thats about 45000 km ago.
Maybe my D3 has a easy life as I drive it long distances. I don't abuse it but really use it.
So I say it is good.

My Wife was the same.

She had Nissan xTrail and loved it. She mainly uses it for transporting her dogs. Liked the size and driving position

I never really got on with it, something and nothing. Altho in the snow it beat my 5 series into a cocked hat

last summer I decided I needed something I would like to drive to so went out and bought a MY06 SE, manual, I didnt tell her until I had done the deal

She was not impressed as never driven one. And why do we need something that big with 7 seats, its only ever me and the dogs.

After a couple of weeks she loved it. I am only allowed to use it at weekends. My kids now take it at every opty and love the seating position for the 6 passengers. My son (part of Young Farmers) says its a great pulling magnet too

Last weekend I decided it was time to think about changing it, I mentioned over dinner that I had seen nice Toureg, much more car like and auto.

The reaction I got - wont be going to VW dealer this weekend. Bow down
 D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR

Take a look on the For Sale section here.

I sold my immaculate, 1 owner 06/56 HSE Auto, Grey with black leather, FLRSH and 44k miles for 24k in private sale last April. Trade bids were 21,500 - 22,000. Since then, the car would have suffered 2 months depreciation.
