Brakes grabbing and low box hill descent issue.
Having just done the Peak District weekend, in unusually hot and dusty conditions for the UK, I noticed that my brakes were grabbing at low speeds.
Another participant mentioned it too - I think it was Steve (QZDCG8).
It was pretty awkward to go down the rock steps on one of the lanes, as it was virtually impossible to control a nice slow creep using the brakes. Mine is an auto so even in low 1st, when descending steps you do it on the brakes.
The brakes gave the impression of all or nothing, resulting in stop start progress.
They were absolutely fine in all other situations. I remember when I did the same lane on the recce run, in cool wet conditions it was a doddle to get down smoothly.
Anyone else noticed this?
Also I have always had the issue when descending steep hills in low box, using HDC and a terrain response program, of the car lurching, as though the brakes are getting applied hard every three or four seconds. I reckon it is not the brakes but is the torque convertor tipping in and out of engagement. If you put the car in neutral and use HDC its smooth.
Does anyone know if the enhancement program sorts this out?

My Auto kicked and lurched on the very same steps in the same way that you mention, not massively but surprising when you think youre in control! I put it down to my lack of low range and HDC use (none) initially and I do hope the enhancement sorts it out.Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:

Same brake issue with the manual, although overcome by keeping my foot on the brakes (but with less pressure) and feeding power in via the clutch to provoke forward movement overcame any lurching issues - good practice for Morocco
Gareth's issue with torque converter lock-up / unlock is unlikely to be cured with a software patch, as it is a fluid dynamics issue - probably exacerbated by heat also, by virtue of the heat vs. viscosity ratio

Thats good, I thought it was worse than before, need to get to the dealer soon, got a permanent low coolant warning. Bottle still on back order

Going down the steps, Low Box, Rock Crawl, HDC on, in 1st, brakes applied brakes engaged, vehicle stops
I thought that they were ever so slightly spongy but I put this down to the 'push' of the drive fighting friction on the pads \ disks.

The missus forgot to mention to you that youre brakes were squealing when setting off from the campsite. Dont know if this is associated though cos there were threads on this ages ago I think. Mine do the same unless I let them off manually which does me for now, but dealer will get it back when I get timeCaptain Nick Medhurst would ask:

Its the control thing - just enough brake to let the car creep over the edge of the step, but not enough to stop it. It was difficult to get that balance this weekend.
The torque convertor grabbing is different, and I suspect is an early car only trait.

I didn't have any such issues, left HDC on most of the time but it rarely cut in, engine braking did 95% of it. Applied brakes over a couple of larger drops to inch slowly over them and with the anti-stall bringing the revs up it performed flawlessly

I have found similar sudden slow down when going down hill. dusty dry conditions as well but have not tried in wet conditions (no rain) a bit disconcerting as not expexted. I suspect it is the electronics doing its bit. It occured as you say in low with TDC off but I find the good thing is the transmission stays in gear and will not change up unless you touch the throttle, gives you grat engine braking.
