Catweasel, these filters are available here.

Just do an internet search and you'll come up with a couple of local companies that supply these filters for around $150

United Kingdom 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Zermatt SilverDiscovery 4

I had this make of filter fitted when I had my second D2 (auto) tuned by the said company together with the larger intercooler it knackered 4 yes 4 airflow meters Mad one replaced under warrenty by LR two by the said company and one at my expense in Spain Evil or Very Mad (I believe manual cars are not affected). They only last around the 3k mile mark, best I had was 4.5K. I towed on a regular basis which I believe accelerated their bemise Crying or Very sad
As I understand it oil from the filter gets desipated on to the contacts of the airflow meter which in turn affects its operating range. The fix was to fit the standard filter (no noticable performance drop) I changed the LR filter at 20k intervals from that point for piece of mind.
D4 3.0 HSE cameras,Hybrid TV, 20" alloys, heated wheel, privacy, Tow pack.
Departed RRS TDV8 HSE Full Arden kit in TEAL and colour coded everything.

Air filters and air flow meters

Shocked The alleged damage to air flow meters by some types of air filters is not in any sense proven. I am not sure how this is relevant to Disco 3 as the allegations are largely connected with Discovery Series 2 and interestingly, rarely with TD5 Defenders (of which more later). It is possible that the likelyhood of failure of air flow meters is increased by one or more of the following : Boost increase, Chip tuning, Poor maintenance, Incorrect engine oil, Hard work of the engine, or the air filter.

Many, many air flow meters have been replaced on completely standard Disco 2 vehicles.

The comparison with the Defender is interesting because the relationship of the air flowmeter next to the air filter is identical, but the assembly is much further from the turbo and crankcase breather. Although the crankcase breather is between the turbo and air flowmeter, its proximity to the air flowmeter is one of the few differences which might explain why far fewer air flow meters seem to need replacing on Defenders.

As a new memeber of the forum I am not aware of whether there are many instances of air flow meter failure on Disco 3 being reported here. Is it a common problem ?
