Hi everyone
I have an intermittent fault. I have a 57plate 2.7 TDV6 disco 3 Sometimes on startup the engine will not rev. I have to wait a while and eventually it works ok. Once it is warm the problem doesnt occur for a few days or maybe it will happen every morning for a while then not again. Does this sound like EGR valves to you?? Can I blank mine off also?
Thanks
Chris

Good evening,
I have blanked my EGR's 5 months ago, and all my problems with "delayed" acceleration, dropping RPM's and black smoke were gone.
I have blanked them, when one of the EGR's was already faulty - diagnosed at LR.
Since more than 2 weeks, I have a funny symptom of engine noise not adequate to RPM's on the dash. In other words, the car is accelerating, engine noise is raising for 2-3 seconds, but the RPM's show normal values/work, and then everything gets back to normal.
At the beginning I thought, that these are the symptoms of a slipping clutch, but it was excluded with a appropriate diagnose.
I've heard, that my problem might come from the EGR's, as they are not "deactived" in the engine firmware. So the engine is compensating faulty EGR readings and modifies the parameters...
Does it sound for you like a real cause of my problems ? Is there indeed any option to deactivate EGR's with software ?

If your vehicle is an MY06 (check VIN number to be sure) then you can blank and forget - there are no side-effects.
Erratic RPM can be a whole host of issues from a bad sensor (eg oil temp sensor) to fuel or air issues. Small variations in RPM are not shown by the dash tachometer as they are smoothed out by the software to avoid troubling the driver; real RPM can be read by a diagnostic tool.
I'd start with checking fault codes.

2009 Disco3 - EGR Fault and Engine light on dash.
Hi,
Sorry - this is my first and I was not sure where to post my question.
I have a 2009 Disco3 - and today I lost all power at low revs and the Engine light came on in the dash.
I took it to my local garage and they connected the diagnostics and confirmed it was the "bank 1" EGR was sticky. (I don't know which side the "bank1" EGR is?). They suggested blanking and then reprogramming (reMAP?) the ECU to stop the Engine management light coming on. The can't do the re-programming until January, and they recommended fitting the blanking kit to fix the power issue and then the re-MAP will fix the dashboard light in January.
I fitted the blanking kit this evening and have driven about 25 miles since - and the engine management light has gone out. From what I had read here I was expecting it to stay on? I'm now worried that the light is out and something else is wrong?
With no engine management light do I need to bother with the re-MAP / reprogramming thing in January?
The engine power is back and the fuel economy is stunning. I used to get 29mpg according to the dashboard computer before , but after blanking, tonight on my 25 miles it claims 41mpg.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Hi all, I am fairly new on here, and am just reading a lot of threads at the moment to prepare myself for any problems I may encounter, only had D3 just over a week (and already replaced alternator! ouch).
Just wondering how exactly you identify whether your vehicle is pre or post MY06 ?
My VIN SALLAAA136A******
I believe that the 6 is the number of interest?
But mine is a 56 plate registration date 29/09/2006
Where exactly is the change?
Many thanks, John

ok thanks I will check it out, I guess that means from what I have read that if I have to blank EGRs at any point then I will not have the enggine light problem? an not need re-map? many thanks for the quick reply
Even some of the very early 07s can be blanked as earlier models can be so you should be fine.
FWIW, all D3s can now be blanked, it's just not so simple and cheap on a EU4 model. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC
Freelander 2 2007 HSE Manual Tambora Flame
Previous: FL2 56 reg SE Manual Black (written off )
Disco 3 06 reg B7S Manual Rimini Red
Disco 2 TD5 Y reg ES Manual Blue - Chipped
Several Discovery 300 TDis

Morning everyone. I need help!!!
I've been reading through all the threads for egr valves as mines are causing me problems
My D3 has problems when starting from below 0 degrees, it takes around 5 attempts to start when cold followed by a choking cloud of toxic gas !
Above this temp it starts immediately
My garage has said its the egr valves as there are no other faults on computer
Anyone encountered this before!!
Cheers

Johnyboy, I think your problem is with glow plugs not working properly (they do not show as fault in the diagnostic anyway even if they do not work).
EGRs would be logging fault if faulty.2013 D4 TDV6 S; Baltic Blue; IID Tool BT

My is now finally giving up! After a year of intermiitent limp home mode (sometimes leaving the light on sometimes not), mine is going in a week on Monday to get it fixed. It has been hell this week, and the GF has just spent 30mins trying to coax it into a non-limp mode.
It appears to be severely effected by the cold (around 0c here at the moment) - although it may just be sulking that it was left outside for 2 weeks at Christmas while I hooned about in a 2014 RRS 5.0SC HSE Dynamic
Luckily I have a warranty and hope this will be covered.
