Guys,
Need help again, it looks like I'm gonna go with the option of the EGR Blanking Kit from Bell Autos, does anyone know how this affects the fuel filter and is it worth changing once I blank off the EGR's?
Cheers

Got my EGR Blanking kit from Bell Autos this week and fitted them this morning.
Took me 3 hours but was well worth it, the car is running like a dream again. Removing the butterfly disc was the most difficult part as I was afraid I was gonna break the end of the spindle, but all is well and its probably the most complex piece of work that I've ever done on a car.
Bell Autos instructions were great, I followed them to the letter. As I said it took me 3 hours but probably could've been quicker but I took my time and probably read them a few times just to be on the safe side.
Its good to have some power again!!
Thank You Bell Autos! you saved me a small fortune.

Your very welcome Stephen im glad its sorted your problem.
Interestingly that ive just relised and i assume that Gibsons of Cumnock who was mentioned earlyer in this thread re fitting the EGR must be supplying and fitting my EGR blanking kit pruchased from one of the well known world wide parts disributors Britpart.

Pete probably making a fortune as well?, I wanted to attempt it myself as I want to be able to do more, I downloaded your PDF, it was excellent. followed it step by step. Not sure what this is on the difficulty stage though?
Thinking of doing the rear brake pads next, wish me luck!
Cheers Pete

Hey if you have done the EGR blanking and the butterfly removal without a problem, you are going to do the rear pads like a walk in the park
They are simple and im sure you wont have any problems what so ever.
The remap gives a safe smooth gain of arround +38bhp and +88nm of torque, this helps with set off lag and the mid range power which is ideal for overtaking.
Give me a call re the remap and remind me and ill run throgh the rear pads with you while on the phone.

If you have an EGR failure than it's likely that you'll have such poor consumption that you'll see an improvement upon blanking, but my experience is that it consumes around 0.5L/100km more
So on 12000miles a year the saving of blanking off instead of replacing the valve is more than offset by extra fuel cost

I've seen a huge improvement in fuel consumption since I blanked mine off.
I reckon when the EGR's were gubbed I was getting around 23 - 25 MPG, I have now seen early 30's and can really feel it, I have also been putting Redex fuel treatment in on a regular basis.

I'm in the same boat, loss of power especially when cold, passed it on to a great local mechanic who first had to fix a 'communication chip' as the car was not talking to him before confirming it was a knackered EGR valve. He is arranging for a part but I'm now not sure wether I should get it replaced or use the blanking kit. Is there any risk with not replacing the faulty EGR?

Personally I opted for the blanking kit as I didnt want the same issue happening again, I like you have a 05MY so no issues with fault lights on the EMS.
Also I was even able to do the job myself not having any experience plus saved myself a fortune in garage costs.
After I completed the job I have seen a marked improvement in fuel consumption & performance.
As far as I know there are no risks and the guys who have done it and went through an MOT have said they had no emission problems.
Let me know what you decide?

Hi Stephen,
I came across your EGR thread on the forum and have had it confirmed by a local specialist that my OS EGR valve has failed. When the car is cold there has been an intermittent acceleration issue, almost like the D3 was pulling away in 3rd gear, the revs would build up really slowly and then she would be fine. I'm guessing this must be the EGR failing.
I have ordered the blanking kit from BAS and if it arrives in time plan to fit it this weekend. I just wanted to ask if you have had any downsides to doing this since you blanked off?
The specialist the car is currently with (having £500 of suspension work done! Only had it 3 weeks - gotta love the D3!) doesn't recommend blanking but there again he wants £400 a side to refit a new EGR!! :0
My only concern is emission levels on MoT, have you had yours checked?
Cheers, Adam.

I dont think any of us that have blanked EGR's have failed an MOT on emmisions, mine went through two with no problems.

Thanks for the prompt reply Al.
Ok that is great news as I dont want to spend £400 a piece on something that I can sort out for £50.
I've haven't had much luck as a LR owner, the L322 vogue I bought a couple years back with 45k FLRSH had a terminal Gbox failure after only having it 40 days (luckily repaired under warranty from dealer) and I now have this D3 and the gearbox selector cable got stuck after 1 week, the main dealer freed it for £50 and this other specialist has had a look at the mechanism and is happy its all fine now. I bought it knowing that it needed the rear bushes done but the tracking is all out and now I have a failed EGR as well.
I knew what I was getting into with the D3, did a lot of research beforehand but I didn't expect the horrors so soon, the car has done 80k FLRSH and been maintained with no expense, but hopefully it will be all sorted soon.
I'm looking forward to the blanking exercise.

The other thing i wanted to enquire about was the benefits of remapping. I'm thinking of getting the BAS kit where you can switch to tuned or standard.
Would anyone recommend this, especially to complement the EGR blanking aspect?
Thanks.
