need help, mines not working
Hi guys,
need help, I've also sent an email to BBS support
I bought an AC031, AC032 &AC034 and fitted them to a new range rover sport wheel with heated steering wheel
Problem is dsecribed below, buttons are malfunctioning, AND the AC034 LED is constanly flickering with my dash saying "transmission Fault"
I'm thinking is the problem with my wheel connector in the picture that came with the wheel? At least I hope it is
[img]
Symptons are;
horn buttons = ok
up arrow, says "no phone fitted" = not ok
down arrow, does volume down = ok
left arrow, does tune left/track down = ok?
right arrow, does volumne up = not ok
cruise set, says listeneing = not ok
cruise resume, does nothing = not ok
cruise cancel, does volume up = not ok
cruise main on button, does nothing = not ok
green phone, says listening = not ok
red phone, does nothing = not ok
speech button, does listening = ok
mode button, goes through presets = ok? would expect mode button to do this
ok button, goes between radio and CD = ok?
heated wheel button = does nothing
please help

Maybe it didn't work on my D3 as it's a 2009 Model Year?
Yesterday I took all boards out to check I'd put them in properly. After leaving the AC034 out obviously the LED on the receiver is no longer blinking as it was but I still had the "transmission fault" warning on dash and the disco wouldn't go into steptronic mode
Other things I tried were putting my original clock ring (non heated steering wheel version) this didn't make any difference, switches still work incorrectly as described in email below, and I'm getting 12v for the heated steering wheel from the new clock ring
Tried my old steering wheel and old switches on the original clock ring and everything works ok, tried old steering wheel and old switch on new clock ring and everything is ok, but BBS AC031,AC032 and AC34 on new wheel and new switches = not ok
So no D4 wheel for me

Had a few emails back and forth with BBS (Adrain), they have been able to do is confirm my wheel wiring is correct and for me to send back the AC031, AC032 & AC034 for testing
What I’ve managed to work out myself is when I disconnect the small connector on the right hand switchpack (with the white, brown an yellow wire, it goes the the heated wheel ECU) the steering wheel controls on both switchpacks work
But…….
The heated steering wheel won’t heat or the switch LED change colour to say heating is activated and the AC034 receiver LED is still constantly dimly lit as soon as the left hand switch pack is connected, without it connected it is fine
Also been messaging luciogodoy on this thread (very helpful) who had the same issue with a later ECU and had to make a fix himself as he didn’t get any joy from BBS, hoping I can work with him to make a better fix

just to confirm guys....
volume up/down/mode/track left & right, phone buttons and speech all work
cruise control, flappy paddle, heated wheel don't work
resigned myself to the fact I'll take it all out tonight and ship the boards and receiver all back to BBS

I had excellent service and support from BBS dispite having initial problems when the conversion was in its infancy, Collin at BBS will not let you down and will sort your problem out
I have not had any problems with it since and highly recommend the conversion, best mod I have done without a doubt. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

As the later ECU is not compatible with the BBS conversion boards it might be better to sell your wheel and buy another one with the older type ECU

good news!
BBS support (Adrian) confirmed yesterday the right board was at fault, had a further update today that there was a short circuit on it and when the heater board was connected none of the buttons works as both left and right boards connect together
the boards has been fixed and all boards and add-ons tested and BBS confirmed all good to go! yippee!!
Just waiting on confirmation when they'll be shipped

Good news!! I have a fully working D4 wheel in my D3
but to achieve it I had to buy a complete new kit from BBS.........
I received my original boards back from repair and fitted them
As soon as the AC032 was connected to the AC031 with the heated steering wheel connector on the right switch pack also connected the switch packs did not work
Symptoms;
- the red LED on the AC032 permanently dimly lit, voice activation kept cutting in, when any buttons on the switch packs were pressed the LED on the AC032 glowed brighter, the heated steering wheel did not function
- with the heated steering wheel connector on the right switch pack DISCONNECTED the left switch pack worked, the right only worked intermittently
So I ordered a new AC031 and AC032
- I fitted the new right hand side AC031 board and the new AC032 and everything worked spot on
- I fitted the new right hand side AC031 board and the old AC032 and everything worked spot on
- I fitted the old right hand side AC031 board and the new AC032 and it
dis-functioned as before
thanks to all those on this forum who sent me suggestions on what to try....great bunch of people!

BBS and Colin have an excellent reputation on the forum, in fact, they're one of the very best.
I have to say however, I do find it somewhat sad that you've found the need to post your list of "demands" before Colin or BBS has had a chance to respond and gone so public with something that you probably really didn't need to and would probably have been better leaving to PM's.
I'm sure you'll be looked after regardless if there's a problem. Mods:

I totally agree, speaking from experience I respecfully suggest you delete the post until you know the outcome as I am sure your opinion and attitude will change providing Colin is aware of the situation and will not need any prompting to put the matter right. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi guys
Appreciate this is a public forum for the sharing of help, support, views, news and opinions and of course you have your right to express your view which I acknowledge and very much appreciate, and of course I have my right to disagree with your comments
Forgive me if I do not get into a ‘tit for tat’ series of replies and intend this to be my last note in reply
Now that I have wonderful new boards I do very much look forward to sending my original boards back to BBS and have asked them for clarification in a note Adrian sent me yesterday, this is purely in the interest of all parties to ensure there are no misunderstandings, nothing more than that. I make this point here to ensure I do not incorrectly infer BBS have not replied to me
And to reiterate at point, I’m delighted the boards I now have and the mod works so another pat on the back for Colin and BBS
And after six years of D2 ownership and 4 months of D3 ownership I do look forward to continued enjoyment received from this forum
Some points I’d like to make in reply to add context to my notes
- It’s not personal
- I have never said anything to (or set out to) damage the positive reputation of BBS or Colin
- All my notes have been honest, polite and trustworthy, none have been disingenuous and I have never set out to offend, only to keep informed
- Is the point the last two replies from forum members are making that I censure comments and I should only provide good news? How does that support others who may find themselves in the same situation I have been in, and have to resign themselves to spending fruitless hours trying to come up with a solution, rather than finding someone has been in a similar position…….indeed one of you actually asked me for and update and one have you have provide me with positive words of encouragement in the past
- All my emails to BBS (and PM’s to Colin) have been polite, courteous and professional and I have always thanked them for their assistance
- I have kept BBS up to date with progress I made and also made suggestions on what I could do/they could assist me with to get to the root cause of the issues I was seeing
- I did reach out to Colin in final desperation via PM’s, until then I had contacted BBS Support, why should I bombard Colin with PM’s when BBS have a good support structure in place
- BBS (and Colin) have always had the opportunity to reply on this forum
- On emails I have sent to BBS I have provided reasonable time to reply before sending further emails to ‘chase’
- I am clearly unlucky that I received a faulty board, BBS have themselves acknowledged a board was faulty and they have acknowledged they are puzzled which I can understand, I have also acknowledged to them how pleased I am my new kit works as described
- I have clearly thanked those who have supported me on this forum, and provided thanks for the positive support, and acknowledge the progress I have made with their support, and the support of BBS
- I have clearly acknowledged my boards are now working and that I am happy, I have also done this in emails to BBS
- If you put yourself in my shoes and imagine it has taken you the five weeks (it has taken me to resolve with the support of BBS) to resolve along with the time, money, effort and frustration I’ve had including the number of different things I’ve tried you will recognise I have been very patient and have done well not to lose all my hair and to give up
- The so called “demands” I have made are purely for direct costs for the kit and postage, and are both reasonable and consistent with normal expectations, have look at any consumer or tort law you will be able to acknowledge this and I have not clearly not requested a refund of my other direct costs
Regards and best wishes to all in the hope this clears up any confusion
