Hi Beanie / Colin,
Yes, sorry if my post was unclear. I was referring to paddle inputs - has stopped working completely now so have to get the receiver out again and check connections etc.
I did use the Scotchlocks supplied but perhaps I need to solder the wires instead

Ps. Already got the Pete Bell whooooooosh machine

Hiya Steve,
There should really be no noticable delay in using this paddle shift conversion to control the shifting over the gearstick
Due to the RF transmission string length, there is an additional delay over hard wired connections, but it is in hundredths of a second range and due to being totally encoded and the short range involved between the Transmitter and Receiver, should in no way be iffy or hit and miss.
By comparison the Auto box ECU takes ten times longer to check all the RPM, Road speed, current gear type info to decide if it will accept the requested shift change.
Now it has stopped working completely does kinda suggest some iffy connections at the receiver end.
BTW, we only put the scotchlocks in for those too lazy to do a proper solder job
Re the wooooosh machine, yep I have one too
Perhaps I should send Pete my next speeding ticket

Have to say Steve, no noticeable delay for me, as you paddle up or down the digit change is instant and the box is not far behind, though I have had a new TC and some box work recently

Scotchlocks should be banned; they really are a terrible way to make an electrical connection and are famed for the problems that they cause.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

While i generally agree with you re Scotchlocks Robbie, Had my own share of Scotch lock horror in my past too, But I would point out that in this case they are not being used externally, subject to the elements or for anything other than signal and very low power tapping.
In addition have you seen how advanced Scotchlocking has come in recent years.
Now many actually contain a Gel that fully weather proofs the joint

I had the first paddles as well as having one of uncle Pete's remaps.
Think that also finished off my gearbox though
The paddles are no slower or quicker then moving the lever IMHO. Its not a DSG box but an auto but mine change as soon as the lever is pulled. I have occasion when they dont respond but I think thats just the auto box doing its funk as Colin says.
Great addition. Shame we couldnt get it working in standard mode. Was there ever a D4 with a six speed box I wonder ? As if there was wonder if that gearbox software would work ?

BBSSPY's marvellous medicine
Hello all. This is only my second contribution but I hope to give back anyhting I possibly can Fromm here on!
I read all 32(!!) pages of this post so far before buying a second hand RRS steering wheel with all the bells and whistles and Colin's kit to enable it all in my 2005 D3 HSE. Half an hour of gritted teeth and it was all done. Admittedly I had memorised the video from Powerful UK on how to replace the D3 steering wheel on YouTube, and had a strict deadline to meet, and I didn't get the paddle down shift to work - up shift works just fine - but had to press on and get it all closed up to drive the family away for the weekend. I will go back into the centre console and double check my wire splicing on the brown cable tomorrow before worrying the steering wheel again.
Just wanted to thoroughly recommend the BBS boards from Colin. They are simple to fit and seem to work impeccably (I'm certain the down-shift issue is my fault). Thank you.
If anyone fancies giving this mod a try I'm more than happy to offer any advice if it might be of help.

Many thanks to you Daedalus and all.
It is pretty obvious that getting this project to where it is currently at with our now supplying conversion kits was no small or easy task, It took many years of work, effort and expense, with me finally delegating the LED back light part to Christian at the last minute, and even then a bit of fine tuning was still required for the Transmitter circuitry.
I am of course pleased to read the positive and appreciative comments from those enjoying and appreciating what we are providing.
Right now we are the sole providers and pioneers of this conversion, as we once were for Diagnostic capabilites on the Disco 3.
However experience has taught me that at some point in the future we will just be regarded as simply another company producing a copy of what many others provide
C'est la vie

Colin - the thanks is all to you!
Re: your concerns for future marketing, is there scope to apply your expertise and knowledge of LR electronics to conversions of other hi-spec steering wheels in their range? The newest RR wheels look pretty spectacular...

Just when I thought is was all sorted - towed trailer from home from Wokingham. Ideal proving round for the flappies me thinks - no such luck, no paddle shift again.

Hiya Daedalus
Many Thanks, nice to be appreciated, at least for now
Have no worries, after 30 years experience, i think i can stay ahead of the wanna be's
You should see whats up my sleeve, but then i would have to kill you
Interesting thought re the latest, and agreed, most spectacular looking new LR model wheels.
However i note that the Airbag is physically different and while i would happily dabble with infotainment modifications, and I do have proper public liability insurance, I would never wish to do anything that may possibly compromise anyones safety.
maplecottage:
Steve, what are you doing wrong ?
Are your receiver connections really that bad
You know you have to be in sports mode for the paddles to work, right
Also the Gearbox won't shift regardless of if you use the gearstick or the Paddles if it thinks the shift change request is silly.
By example I run a 2010 RRS with paddles all fitted and enabled as per origional and sometimes i think they are not working.
