My Mk1 USB variant was much the same as you described. I was forever having issues with the ports, especially as my computer grabbed so many for itself, and with noise on the bus line giving me frequent connection issues. Tidying it all up and ditching USB in favour of serial gave me a much more robust capability.

None of our household lap-tops have serial port Sad

Does this work better? I'll connect the W-BUS to the vehicles port.

If WTT sits forever at "Initialising", it means that it can see the COM port OK, but is having trouble getting a response from the FBH.

Either:

  • there is a wiring problem and pin 7 of the OBD port is not connected to pin 2 of the FBH
  • the 12V and 0V of the OBD adapter are not hooked up to the vehicle battery
  • the OBD adapter has an internal fault and is not translating commands of the COM port side of its interface to the vehicle side correctly
  • the FBH is not powered up
  • something else Embarassed

Thanks,

I'll check my pin 2 connection, although it was all good when installed the 1533.

And at £5.60, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not working....

Thanks Robbie,

I did the engineering thing and took it apart this evening. Turns out it looks like a single channel RF relay. Unfortunately somewhere in the past the fob seems to have gone walkies. There's definitely no sim slot anyway.

Does anyone know if I can buy and pair a new fob or is it easier to just replace the RF unit? Any recommendations? The current one is marked with a CE stamp and the code MPL26BK if that helps at all.

cheers

Wil,

See if there are any markings on the RF board.

Most seem to use a 433MHz unit - you could see if it's a RDF1 which is very popular. If it is, you are in luck as you can get the controllers from places like RS, Farnell etc.

Or - pop round and we'll see if we can pair mine with it Whistle

Cheers Steve,

I took the RF receiver apart, but it looked pretty basic, no buttons for pairing etc. I've just bitten the bullet and ordered one of these to replace it:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C1T3...ge_o00_s00

Hopefully it'll be fine once I move the jumper from latched to momentary. I might well still need to come and clear some faults though as I think I've pressed the flame button too many times in my ignorance and excitement and probably locked the FBH. Not been cold enough to test yet (tomorrow looks like it might be!).

How's your weekend looking for some Disco discovery? Confused

Cheers!

Diagnostic Loom Wiring

Hi
I have a FBH also not working and I am just making up a wiring loom like IanNP. (I actually live nearby, in Leyland!) I see that there are 2 ground connections, chassis and signal one is on pin 5 of the OBD2 interface and on pin 4. Does it matter which one you use? I have seen on some other forum that they have been linked together, is that a good idea? Hoping that someone who has made up one of these cables can help.

Alan

It's all here, with an explanation: www.disco3.co.uk/fbh

Some OBD adapters seem to use 4 for the ground, some use 5 - they are both grounds in the socket pinout spec.

Wiring both simpy makes sure you have a ground connection. You can get away with wiring one of them if you're prepared to swap the connection between 4 and 5 should you have a failed connection.

Another option is wire one and bridge 4 and 5 inside the OBD2 adapter itself.

Does anyone know what the low fuel limit is for the FBH not firing? Would it be the low fuel warning lamp or last 1/4 tankful?
