Where does it say that ND? Are you off because you aren't making anything ...or because the site is making something or that it takes so much time out of your schedule I can''t quite work it out TBH
None of the above. And no need to be confused Rich, it doesn't suit you.
I've seen a number of instances these last 12 months or so where members have gone out of their way to negotiate discounts if something is bought en-masse, only to have the "commercial interests" test sling a stick in the spokes. Essentially it turns the goodwill of some members into a form of unpaid employment as a fund raiser for the site.
None of that applies in my instance, I willingly entered into the bungs thing knowing I'd not make any money and happy to pay back to the site that has saved me money and my sanity countless times. But to expect people who've done legwork to sort out a discount to act as revenue collectors sucks. It's a matter of principle Rich, something I'm sure you understand.
Now when are we having that drink? I need to get out and get rat-arsed with some mates some time soon or I might explode. (give you a hint why I'm blowing off steam here tonight?) I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Now you know what it's like being VAT registered unpaid collector of taxes - BTW, I always thought that donations were voluntary, taxes were mandatory...

Group Buy Rules wrote: "Organisers of Group Buys using suppliers other than site sponsors MUST contact me BEFORE starting the group buy so that contact can be made with the supplier to check site support opportunities.
Other than that - enjoy Smile "
Simple marketing opportunity for Martin to pursue IMO. Whats wrong with that?

Quite often these discounts are negotiated spur-of-the-moment with relatively small businesses. You start messing around with "and the site owner wants a cut" and see how long the offer of a discount lasts. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Nowhere do the rules say that if the GB supplier does not or cannot cough up a donation, that the GB will be disallowed
It just gives Martin a chance to make contact, and a judgement. Whats wrong with that?

Isn't it awful to think that someone can provide a service or medium and expect to achieve some sort of recompense. Next Alan you'll be telling me you work for nothing too.
If you don't want to provide a mutually beneficial group buy then I would think that it's a fairly straightforward choice. Of course there will always be those that just thrive on the showering of 'gratitude' thats generally follows a something for nothing scenario 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Quote:donations are voluntary, taxes are mandatory... nothing wrong with Martin making a living from the site(s) - 40% of my income comes from D3 but IMO to insist on a 'commercial opportunity' before a GB is 'approved' is outside of the sites sphere of control - just like my customers are the driving / motivating force, the D3 contributors are the ones that provide content, keeping the site current and alive.... nothing wrong with Martin contacting the supplier post or during group-buy but to insist that prior notification is made is beyond the scope of the site.... if any sponsor's products are infringed I'm sure they'll be the first to inform the mods and any necessary action will follow

Blimey! I go away for a couple of hours thinking that using my contract account and contacts to get a good rate on Jetboils was a nice thing to do.... and look what happens!
I put the comment ask mods if my post was ok because i know there has been a lot of issues with "for sale" posts recently, and I wanted to check mine was ok. DG - Fair point about reading the rules, but who reads all the small print, especially when you're posting on a forum and not taking out a mortgage. I wouldn't mind too much but I don't even want a Jetboil myself!
Would it be possible to get this back on thread now? Thanks everyone. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Don't take the Rich
Martin doesn't offer something for nothing. As mentioned, I know his advertising rates and I think I might be able to run a forum in my spare time on the funds that generated. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

on the contrary DG,
Anyone that's in my industry is not in it for the money, they're in it for the fun/ quality of life/ and the free sh t.
now if we are in a position to be able to help out others then why not? there doesn't HAVE to be a motive, OR financial gain...
