South Africa 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Auto Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

Hi all

I have not posted much on this really fantastic forum but lurk real often. Embarassed

I have been experiencing this very same problem with my D3 '06 model's brakes for the last couple of weeks. I booked my vehicle in with an independent brake fitment company today (my warranty has expired) as I suspected the problem to be brake fade caused by the pads overheating. I received a call from the owner a short while later informing me that my D3's brake booster and vacuum pipe are full of oil which is causing the lack of brake boost assistance. He has a contact at Landrover Sandton who mentioned they were expecting a recall regarding this fault with the braking system.

I noticed when driving the vehicle that under most conditions the brakes felt okay but as soon as I had to keep my foot on the pedal for a long period of time i.e. when in slow moving traffic moving downhill the pedal would become hard and it became very difficult to stop the vehicle Shocked I had to use the EPB to stop the vehicle on one occasion otherwise I would have smacked the vehicle in front of me.

I called Landrover Waterford as they had replaced the booster in early January 2009. I have booked the vehicle in for them to sort out this potentially very dangerous situation - hopefully at their cost. I have forwarded this link to them as they indicated that they knew anything about this possible recall.

Just the brake recall for me. I've driven the D4 already, so if they want to slip me in with a FL2 for the morning to get it done earlier..... Whistle

What about 05 model cars??

My 05 D3 has the oil in the vacuum line, and the brakes are noticeably poorer than they were a year ago. Surely Land Rover can't refuse to rectify this for earlier cars, when they have acknowledged the problem exists.
I spoke to LR Customer services tonight who have promised to call back tomorrow with some news.

Any other owners prepared to take LR to task over this if they don't open up the recall to include all vehicles exhibiting symptoms??

I am still surprised that the turbo issue has not resulted in significantly worse publicity for them. The TD5 oil pump issue SEEMS less prevalent than the D3 turbo failure rate, yet made it onto watchdog and various motoring publications.

Cheers.

Concequence of failure is greater for the vacuum pump, safety issue.

Tonka was in the stealer today to get the bluetooth working (they had the wrong parts buts that another story).

I showed the Tsb , but they shrugged there shoulders, if I want it fixed I have to pay for it as it hasnt come up on the scandinavian dealer net yet.

The same with the rear diff software update.

So I asked them if I have to either crash due to poor breaks or break something before doing the required work ?

Yes, sorry but if we did the work we would be out of pocket as LR skandinavia will not rembuse for our time.

Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Lets hope they start the recall over here soon.

As for the re diff I can't be that had to upload the software - could it be done with BBS FSV ?

Dealer was pleased I raised the issue as they were concerned about the impact of the postal strike on the letters going out i.e. getting put in a large pile and never delivered. They were delighted to book the car in in 2 weeks to get both mods done.

Dealers expect to have the parts by the end of next week in enough numbers to start doing the mods so they seem happy to get cold callers wanting the fix - after all it is warranty work and times are hard....

The very lovely Kayleigh from Guy Salmon Thames Ditton called me this afternoon to book my motor in for this recall 8) ...also going to deal with warranty items:

- slight transmission \ diff whine at 2100rpm
- seat movement latest fix
- Excessive leather wear on door facing seat base

Booked in for 12th October ...and I am making the big mistake of accepting a D4 HSE courtesy vehicle while mine is in Sad
