Yeah come on Willy, if you're going to make a calculation at least make it accurate, you didn't take into account the mass of the strop, the wind resistance or even something basic such as the density of the air it was moving through!

Not sure but here it is before it snapped. (The yellow one)
A belated but nonetheless deserved massive thanks to Neil and TV4x4 for arranging, and marshalling the brilliant day at Hogmoor.
Big up to Paul and crew for the Saturday evenings feeding of the 5,000, free use of the awning and company while trying to demolish the beer and cider supplies
I was happy to provide you all with a photo/video oppportinity by getting grounded in the rutted puddle with all 4 wheels in superextend but not reaching solid ground
I missed the strop breaking episode or I might have gone round the edge, but thanks again to TV4x4 for the smooth, gentle pull off . I never felt a thing
(Not in the biblical sense you understand).
to Mrs BCC for the pastries which went down great with a cuppa mid afternoon.
Special thanks to Phil for the Leffe's - a welcome addition to my cottage fridge.
Richard (XTC) keep telling yourself - "I will resist, I will resist", but the tintent bug will get you in the end.
Thank god (XTC for my PMR otherwise I would have had to throw the rugrat out of the window to get help.
Will try to post the photos and vids taken during the day, later on once I get chance to get them out of the cameras......
To echo just about everyone who made the day, "Let's do it again sometime real soon......"
Good to meet faces old and new too FORECAST FOR TONIGHT: things have happened out there!!!

Hi there, THE STROP WAS FAULTY. IT WAS KINETIC. I examined the strop after it snapped. The stiching holding the loop at the end together just let go. The shackles stayed connected to both vehicles. The D2 that was doing the recovery was an auto, I would guess he had reached 5/8 mph when the strop snapped. There is some doubt in my mind now that it had been labled up wrong, we will have to do some trials to see if it is truly kinetic.
I was not there at the begining of the recovery and one of our marshals had taken control of the situation as in our standing instructions. After failing to winch the D3 out forwards it was decided to kinetic recover backwards. I have said before this was a brand new strop and we no reason to think it would fail as we have done many recoveries like that before. We have 12/14 events a year with sometimes with 80 or more cars, so plenty of oppertunity for something as dramatic like that to happen. Yes a D3 is the heaviest LR ex Solihull but we have had plenty of heavy other LRs once winches, HD bumpers, tank guards, rock sliders, and roll cages have been fitted.
I have e-mailed Damar and told them until they come up with a satisfactory explanation why this happened then I will not allow any Damart equipment to be used at our events. I am still waiting for a reply.
If I had been there at the begining of the recovery then I would have winched him backwards but hey ! ain't hindsight a wonderful thing.
CheersThe older I get the better I was .

Don't take the comments to heart Lucky Trucker ...there will always be interpretations of what was right or wrong in a forum of this size. Overall your guys did a great job on the day and I wouldn't let this unfortunate incident cloud that. I'm sure that Damar will have an explanation soon 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I agree with DG, it was a great day, and you guys did a great job. I think people are just interested to know what happened and to think about why it did happen. I've not heard a single moan about any of the marshals invovled. How is Big Matts Shogun BTW, is it dead?D3 HSE MY05 Auto
