For me a holiday isot only where you gout also how you get there.
It is easy and quick to take the highway to your destination but you miss a lot off nice places on the way. Sometimes I take a tunnel for the speed but I prefer the mountain roads for the views and pleasure to drive them.
I hate the Freya tunnel It islong and bloody expensive. The drive over the mountain is nice but takes a while.
I live in The Netherlands and work mostly in Southern Germany and Austria. That is between 800 and 1100 km one way. On my way to work I drive most highway till the last 200 km then I reprogram the LR Nav to take the shortest route and exclude Highway and Tollroads. It takes time but you drive the nice small roads.Roel
