Your advice please on my Disco 3. Is it or is it not a HSE.?
Hi all,
Been following this site for a while but finally joined as I require some advice.
I was the owner of a Freelander for many years and have finally stepped up to a Disco 3. Well, I bought the Disco from a company in the UK 6 weeks ago who specialise in exporting Land Rovers. I purchased an unregistered 2008 Disco 3 HSE V6 4.0 LHD petrol for 27888 GBP VAT free with just delivery miles. Cost me 1200 GBP to ship the car to Dubai from the UK.
Well, I went to the port here in Dubai to pick it up today. It was a vision in Zermatt silver and after filling forms in for 5 hours I finally got my mits on the car.
When I opened the door, I immediately saw that the car had no touch screen sat nav. The leather was all there (very nice indeed) as was the Premium Ice pack and the car purred like a dream.
I then noticed that the car had no front parking sensors or a sun roof with the alpine glass. The Premium Ice pack also only has 10 speakers, 2 in each door and 1 in each of the rear pillars, not 13, unless the other three and the sub woofer are hidden somewhere. Its has all the controls in the rear.
I know I got the car for a great price but all the land rover brochures for either the UK or worldwide for HSE models have the touch screen Sat Nav and and sun roofs as standard. The car is definitely badged as a Discovery 3 HSE and the car quotes and invoices also state HSE.
Contacted the company in the UK who stated that LR speck HSE models differently for some Rest of the world models. I queried the fact that I assumed from the quote, invoice and shipping documents that a HSE would be just that, a HSE as described in Disco 3 and LR3 brochures. I have asked the company to provide me with some literature from Land Rover on why my Disco HSE does not appear to match the HSE's quoted in their brochures. The company were very apologetic and admitted they should have stated this HSE model was lacking some of the normal standard HSE fittings. Its a bit late now as its not like I can return it to their showroom in the UK from Dubai.
I love the car but am slightly miffed that I could have bought a brand new LR3 here in Dubai, fully loaded with a five year warranty, free servicing up to 60km and a years free insurance for only 4000 GBP more here in Dubai and I could have had it 5 weeks ago instead of waiting and shelling out a grand on car hire. I thought buying and supporting a British supplier was better in these hard times.
The company are very reputable and have good references here on Disco3. I do not feel its right to mention them here but can I ask the experts if they have ever come across HSE specs differing so much.
From the research I have done today, this appears to be an SE model with upgrades in leather and sound system. If this is the case how can it be described and badged as a HSE by LR. As I work abroad and know the company well from colleagues and myself using them before and reviews have always been good, maybe I should have not just assumed that the HSE spec in the brochures was what I would be getting.
Anyway, as mentioned any advice would be welcome. The wife is quite pleased it does not have a touch screen as she says its one less thing for me to fiddle with whilst driving. Do not know what she means.

Cheers Neil,
Its got the Leather (Very soft and dappled) but Sunroof and Sat Nav, not present.
The original quote and invoice clearly stated Land Rover Discovery 3 HSE 4.0 V6 P Auto LHD, the following was then listed.
I also paid extra for mats and a warning triangle.
I just took it that the HSE included what was in the brochure for a HSE and the items listed above were the options on the price.
I know I bought the car blind but was I wrong to assume that just because the Sat Nav and sunroof was not listed I would not be getting them? Would I have any recourse to complain to LR or do you think this is reflected in the price?
Cheers

Neil,
2 speakers in each door and 1 each in the rear pillars facing forward. No sub or speakers in the low boot area. Just cubby holes either side in the boot area. Its a bit late here but I could post photos tomorrow.
Apny, the company I bought the car from is legit. Its deals with the UK government on a regular basis supplying cars abroad to NGO's and diplomats. The Chassis and engine number are fine. Nothing has been ground off.... lol.
As I mentioned, the cost of the car was 27888. With VAT that would be 32071. Cheap for a HSE, so do you think I have an SE with mods on.
If this is the case, why would LR badge it as a HSE.?
I think Jason may be on the money - but I thought rest of world HSE was UK SE - so where the hell is the SatNav ? Have you got electric seats or are they manual. Electric steering column, arm rests on front seats etc
As they have admitted spec shortfall - I would ask them to pick it up pronto"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
