Additional note: new xfer box and new air filter (me) later, it feels a lot more lively, but mpg is up as well, so I think xfer box issue was dragging MPG down of late.

Good luck to all those other's with noises Neutral

My D3 went in for service yesterday to and to check out the wup wup noise from the front (to Guy Salmons). Today they say they can hear the noise but say there is no issue with Diff. They have suggested that the tyres may be causing this noise!! They have said that the tyres are 'stepped' with 5mm on the inside and 4mm on the outside edges.

Is there a TSB for this diff/transfer box noise does anyone know?

Guy Salmons are suggesting that I buy new tyres.....my response is if I do and the noise is still there will they pay for the tyres??!!

Can anyone help me please....!!!!

Ask them to swap over all the wheels from one of their demonstrators to prove that new tyres will solve the problem.

Apart from 15 mins to change the tyres over it does not cost anyone anything to prove or disprove the proposed solution/answer from the dealer. Thumbs Up

I suggest you borrow a second set of wheels/tyres and try those. If the noise is still there then you can elimiate the tyres as the culprit.

I have more wear on the centre of our tyres than the outers (yes they are at the right TP, but can't comment what previous owner did!) and it makes no difference.

Have you asked them perhaps what Land Rover think of the computer logs they sent to them? If they have not sent the diagnostics in perhaps suggest they do that and come back to you? (was needed on ours for landrover approval anyway).

Badly balanced or worn tyres can cause noise, but not like the noise we had before they changed xfer box (which has been gone since).

Thanks guys. Have been told that LR warranty engineer is coming out to inspect the vehicle. Problem with these guys is that they want to avoid paying out...the only issue they have is that the warranty is up for renewal next month....

Have also told Guy Salmon to swap tyres with demonstrator as SJR suggested. Will see if they do this...

Your tyres pressures may be too high. Idea

MG, wup wup noise could be wheel bearing, had front left on my car changed under warranty back in December. Noise gradually got worse over few k miles, was esp bad on roundabouts and could be felt in steering. New bearing fixed instantly! Thumbs Up

PS just read rest of the thread and above is old news but Hey Ho, better late than never! Methley, strange - mine needed 4 new height sensors after local dealer changed bearing, and an EGR valve!

Did you read all of my post, specifically the bit about the pressures are correct but I don't know what the previous owner did?! Wink

Pressures are correct, but your right that is usually the cause of uneven wear like that. Might point in terms of this thread was we have some uneven wear and it does not create a noise.

Only about 2mm left on this set of scorpions, car only done 26K miles, need new set soon anyway so not too worried.

So you didn't cause the wear?
Makes sense, but I do suspect previous owner had then too high.

I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
