Well, I will report back what our dealer says.
At least the mechanic that came out for a spin could hear the noise thus clearing me of being typical customer car hypochondriac!

ours seems to whine worse at 30-40, especially when you lift off, so don't panic just yet as you may not have the same problem, and until they swap it and the noise go's away can't be sure the diagnosis is accurate!

Yes that was my concern - while its under waranty it doesn't matter how many parts they change until they get to the root cause.
While I am paying for it then that is a different matter.15 3.0 RRS HSE - Silver

OK I've managed to take it into the dealer on the correct day this time MJ Fews have phoned to say it needs a new front diff. Should be fitted tomorrow, fingers crossed.

I've got the same thing on mine, it started doing it a couple of weeks ago in Wales and seems to be getting worse as the mileage tots up, between 30 and 40 it's most noticeable, I seem to feel the wuring noise through the steering wheel too, annoying sound and I sometimes get a bit of a wup wup noise when slowing...
Wheel bearing are ok I've had them checked.Cheers Paul

My front diff has just been replaced under warranty following noise you all describe. Car has just done 59k and is 2.5 years old.

Transfer box swapped today, noise gone
Paul. - your wup wup description matches what I would describe we had, of course it could still be any of the things above in this thread!

Have same noise on mine. Best description is like the burble of a V8 engine!! It is road speed related and as has been said on here if the car is put in neutral the wup-wup noise remains at same frequency and as the vehicle slows down the wup-wup gets lower in frequency.
Have called dealer for an appointment to get it looked at. I hope the LR warranty fully covers this if a new differentail or transfer box are required.MG
