We've all done it. I know I have, although of late it's only tended to be exotica or unusual stuff. Ultimately I too think it's detrimental to the site, as I know I've wanted to slowly and painfully kill people in the past when a "find" that is in my (sometimes limited) budget has been broadcast to the world. Likewise in the past I've done the "I'm bidding" only to have someone crow that they'll outbid me. Thanks for that Thumbs Up So to all those who see no harm in it, put yourself in that position and ask if it's still harmless.

The way I see it, if you can post on a forum you can probably work a search engine.

A simple locked thread entitled "have you tried looking on ebay?" and a ban on posting links to anything other than your own goods for sale or "comedy" links gets my vote.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

One alternative is a new eBay only forum - post up links in there, keeps the For Sale & Wanted section clear and uncluttered for non-eBay stuff.

Ah, but that would still MAKE ME ANGRY Evil or Very Mad when I've found a little bargain and some chump goes "here everyone, have a look at this!"

Although I appreciate my blood pressure isn't your responsibility Wink

It's impossible to please everyone on the site I'm afraid - and I agree that there are benefits and problems with posting eBay items.

Anyone who's used eBay will have been frustrated by being outbid, or paying more than they really wanted, but it is an auction site and if you can find the item and you want it, you can buy it.

If something is posted that you also spent a long time finding, is rare and you really want it then drop the poster a PM and discuss whether their post should remain. You could find yourself very busy though... Wink

It does seem fairly odd this forum has more than most links to ebay - why that should be I don't know.

My intial reasoning was that, it is a helpful and friendly action informing the forum of a bargin or rare part. however
as pointed out above, for people with the money the way it operates on here is great, because they can just go and outbid someone else, for that reason and because I havn't got load of cash I am jumping ship to the find it yourself brigade. Thumbs Up

Well just to help everybody out I've posted a link in my sig which will show 99% of D3 items available right now. I think Slimers done something similar.

I don't have a problem with people helping each other out ...I just get sick of the amount of eBay posts drowning out other legitimate FS&W posts.....so in an act of reverse psychology ....here you go Very Happy ...just copy and paste this into your address bar or your sig line to help others : http://tinyurl.com/eBay-All-things-D3-Now ...and then every one can see without having to post about it Thumbs Up

Guys

I can see all the arguments and i think there might be a way through this that would/could keep everyone happy Very Happy

If the link which DG put in his signature strip was in a locked and stickied thread at the top of For Sale and wanted, that would solve the ebay problem.

In addition, split For Sale and Wanted into 'Land Rover' & 'Everything Else', that would keep it very clear what were genuine Land Rover/Disco3 items being sold/sought by forumers, and anthing else (i.e cameras, furniture) which come up from time to time that people are selling or looking for.

thoughts everyone......................................as i now run for cover Wink Thumbs Up

Here is another opinion :

I would Like to see the For Sale and Wanted Forum ONLY used by people who have something For Sale themselves or are Wanting to buy something themselves.

If another forum member spots something on Ebay that someone else wants, then a simple post to the relevant thread would provide the friendly help that this site is known for.

Therefore, only advise potential buyers of ebay items if they have specifically posted a WANTED thread

Thumbs Up
