Thanks! I sent Ray a message.
Conversation with Land Rover parts department 10 minutes ago, after finding out the price for replacement winch and alloy:
Me: - So, do Land Rover actually do anything to stop people from cutting through the wire? Obviously I'm replacing my spare. How do I stop them from taking it again?
LR: - Well... We have something but it doesn't actually stop them getting to the wire. They can still cut it.
Me: - ??? So it doesn't actually work???
LR: - Well... I did see something online. A guy designed this disk that stops them getting to the wire so it can't be cut. Why don't you try that?

Received my 2 RLD protectors in the post today.
Quality and finish is amazing...........they had the laser-cut R.L.D as well
Big thanks to Uncle Ray for getting them to me so quickly.
Fitted them with no problem. 10 mins for first one and 5 for the second.
One question about tightening the spare winch...............does the sound of the loud click at the end signal that you should stop tightening? I am guessing it does but never had cause to lower spare before so I thought I would cofirm this.2010 D4 TDV6 HSE - Nara Bronze

Stolen spare tyre
Hi not sure if pm got sent last night but my spare has been stolen and obviously looking to get new one and protector. Discordance recommended you. Not sure if my cable etc is still there... Assume not as there is nothing dangling. Where are you based. I am near Hemel although in Reading quite often. Annoyingly I was in the process of getting a protector too as it was pointed out by KLLR... As it is a 2005 G4 it seems even more frustrating that it was taken. Appreciate guidance, prices, etc...

Hi Uncle Ray,
I am keen to get one of your spare wheel protectors to secure my replacement spare wheel. I have 20 inch rims.
Please let me know how much they are now, which method of payment you prefer and how to get the protector.
OK People i am back now so i will get round to every one as soon as i can Home of RLD Hidden winch mounts Spare wheel Locks Trailer Body Fabrication ray@rld-tech.co.uk D3/4 sump plates MY 14 sump plates and the Discovery Sport wheel protectors Discovery 5 wheel locks

I wonder if Ray or any owners could answer 2 questions for me please?
1. As the protector seems to fit inside the wheel rather than actually sitting on the inner rim (where balancing weights are sometimes fitted), what prevents the protector from jamming tight inside the wheel when it has been winched up tight (due to the conical shape of the inside of the wheel) and preventing you from releasing the spare when you need it?
2. How does water and muck drain out? I can see there are 'RLD' cuts in the centre of the protector but as the wheel is stored at an angle under the vehicle they wouldn't allow water to drain unless the vehicle was parked at such an angle that the spare was horizontal to the ground. Does that make sense?
Cheers if you can help,
Darren

To answer both questions in one ...the rim of the protector sits about 1/2 an inch from the rim of the wheel in the fully winched position ...therefore it can never get jammed and this lets also any water out 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Help ! My spare has just been stolen. The Aylesbury dealer seems to know nothing about these RLD options and Landrover themselves don't seem to see this as an issue.... off to send Uncle Ray a message ...
