Top man
Expressed an interest, package arrived quicker than reasonably possible! Fitted it - does the job, looks great to boot. Quality at a good price and like all the best ideas, very simple. Highly recommended to all.

So, having just bought a 2011 D4 SDV6 HSE to replace my 1994 Tdi that sadly will be sent to live on a farm
I googled D4 and found this website. Sitting down with a rather good Merlot I spent a couple of hours educating myself about my new vehicle via this community. As much as the crime rate is very low on the IoM, I do travel over to the UK by ferry around 4 times a year and I quickly discovered this thread warning me of the risks of an unprotected spare wheel.
Last weekend saw me sending an email to Ray enquiring about purchasing the aformentioned protector. All correspondence via email led to a bank transfer taking place and the protector arriving on Friday night: what a great service from Ray. I have not fitted it yet, bit too much of the white stuff over here at the moment, but even an idiot like me should be able to do this.
Once again, top marks to Ray and also all the members that have kept this thread near the top, in order for me to spot this quickly and sort out my spare wheel insurance and peace of mind

Spare Wheel Protector
Hi, I have recently purchased a spare wheel protector from Uncle Ray but not yet fitted it to my 20†spare wheel. Can anyone tell me how it is fitted, I had asked Ray but did not receive a reply. Currently there appears to be a lung that fits in one of the wheel slots on the flat part of the winch which goes through the wheel, does this way of fitting still apply? Also I assume you put the end piece through the wheel and then through the hole in RLD’s protector straighten it up with the main part of the protector hanging below. I do have the new revised “anti theft†winch fitted as my Discovery is 2012, this was checked by the Dealer. I believe this revision is supposed to stop a thief twisting the winch wire and snapping it, although still does not give 100% protection from the wire being cut, hence the purchase. Other questions are:
Will the extra weight of the protector be ok for the wire and when tightening up do you keep going until the ratchet clicks2012 Dicovery 4 HSE Santorini Black, Almond Leather

This photo courtesy of DCM shows it fitted
It sits in the well of the wheel and the winch plate goes through the spare wheel and through the protector
Although Land Rover claim the new winch is theft proof I wouldn't like to put it to the test

The new winch has been tested by various scroats.
It failed these tests.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Expecting 2 of the RLD protectors in the post next week.
I have never had cause to lower the spare winch so I was just wondering if there is a guide or walkthrough posted on the site for fitting the protector. It sounds idiot-proof I know but I don't want to be the one that proves that it isn't.2010 D4 TDV6 HSE - Nara Bronze

The plate is fitted in the same way as the wheel. Rather than placing the brace through the hole in the wheel on its own it now goes through the matching hole in the plate too, sandwiching the wheel between the plate and the car.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
