Rodent damage

Filled the car up with fuel today to nearly full, when I got home I noticed the back of the car and rear windscreen appeared to be 'speckled' with something. Thought I could smell diesel, sure enough diesel was dripping from underneath the vehicle and the vortex of the car when moving pulled it onto the rear windscreen.
Rang Landrover Assist and they registered fault and told me someone would ring back. An hour later no call so checked with LRA and told mechanic was at another job but would be there ASAP. Rang again 90 mins later just as he arrived.
Explained fault and he immediately sprung bonnet and removed oil filler cap and then shroud underneath, I wondered what was happening as fuel was leaking from other end of vehicle. He showed me where rodents had been eating some of the insulation on one of the pipes and said that they love the stuff and the labels too!
He explained that the fuel tank has a breather hose on top of tank with the same type of insulation, mice eat it and then thru the plastic tube that the insulated hose slips over, when the tank is filled and the vehicle moves diesel slops around and some comes out of the hole. He had heard of 2 other instances like this in 'semi rural areas'.
So what to do, asked about having it recovered to Guy Salmon Knutsford where it was purchased, no chance I was told they have a block on any incoming work-20 vehicles waiting and only 3 techs. New tank approx £400 he said plus labour. Have decided to run tank down and keep low until waiting period decreases or service due. Anybody else had this experience and would it fall under warranty work?

Unless they're LR-branded rodents, why would it be under warranty? Confused hardly LR's fault, is it?
