Rodent damage

Driving down to Devon for the October half term , I noticed that I needed diesel , so into Worcester services and tanked up the D3, as to my amazement i was actually filling up the service stations fourcourt Big Cry

I carried on driving though, the rear screen was getting wet and I called out Landy assistance who were superb Thumbs Up They came out to the Farm I was staying at and checked out the D3, no fault could be found Evil or Very Mad

Landrover Assist got the D3 taken away to Matford landrover. Martin at Matford rang to say that a Rodent (Rat /Mouse ) had eaten a hole and eaten the rubber tubes to my fuel tank Shocked

A new tank is around £400 and plus labour so expensive DIESEL DRINKING RAT Banging Head

BUT Martin had a better idea , I had not heard of this but Polly Resin Question the top of the tank, which will seal it.

It works well and is still working today Thumbs Up

Simon

Hi Icestationzebra

Yes they had to drop the tank Surprised
As the Rat/Mouse had eaten the sender unit and the 2 pipes that link onto it.

I was more suprised taht rhe tank was PLASTIC Shocked

They drained the tank and Polly Resined the new elbow link and then re-filled the tank Very Happy

Simon Thumbs Up

You know I'd be less surprised to find that said rodent was actually a scroat reaching up and around and cutting the pipe to get a siphon pipe in to steal fuel...

This happened to me on my D3, cost me £800 !

the D3 is a farm vehicle and should have a better design . Its all one part attahced to the tank , for one small pipe needs the whole tank replacing . They should design it better , fit for purpose ???

Good idea on the fix, 2 years on for me and I wish I would have read this back then.

Had 2 mice in mine....

The first chewed through the o/s windscreen washer jet tube. Then another took a fancy to some sweets in the glovebox. Caught it with a trap before it chewed through any pipes or wiring....

Yes, it lives in a very rural location......

Do you know how the mice got into your D3 ? Also, how did they get into the glove box, WOW ?

I've had one in mine in the last 2 weeks, as it's chewed sweets insided ( kids eating in the car ! ) .

I've hovered throughout and shut the vent off on the dash board, I also got one of those noise repelant things and put it under the car but I can't really tell it the mouse has gone as there are no signs in the last two weeks ( but I suppose doesn't means its gone ) .

Did you put the trap in the car or outside ? I've got two little kids and didn't really want to show them a mouse in a trap but saying that the thought of a mouse in the car is equally as grim !

I have no idea how it got in. But they can squeeze through tiny gaps.

Put 2 traps in the car, one in footwell one in lower glovebox (closed). The glovebox one caught a decent sized mouse.

I dont keep sweets in car anymore.
