Last winter there was some discussion about using the Webasto T91 telestart as an alternative to the 1533 timer and Maplin remote. Did anyone try this? If so did it work?

Think the main hurdle was the price differential.... it should work

Thanks - unless one happened to come up cheap enough to risk it, I 'll go for the tried and tested.

Have anyone here successfully paired a T91 telestart with a 2006 model FBH ?
Are there any diff between model years ?
Cheers

No, it won't work without one of the various solutions in the middle.
As it happens, I'm working on my solution to the same problem as we speak. I'll post more if and when I get it working.
Hardware is easy, my coding skills are carp
Contrary to what's written in other threads/places, the T91 and the heater communicate perfectly well.
T91 tells the heater to turn on, but the heater/car refuses the command until the telestart learns to ask more politely.

Well you would get the 'two way' remote that tells you if the heater is running, and the T91 remote is quite small and neat, and you don't need to source an overpriced timer module that you don't need... but mainly in my case it's just that I started poking around to understand why it doesn't work out of the box
I have a small custom pcb that sits between the T91 interface and the heater, and translates the messages between the two.
It's not intended to be a commercial solution, just a simple software project to gain experience with the microcontroller I'm using (which I use in a few things in my work).

just looked at wiring on 2010 rrs and all wiring is same as on d3 with w-bus from t91 into pin 2 0n fbh so WHY DOES THIS not turn on fbh on f3 ???? getting a sore head .

T91 does work, it's just that it doesn't do anything useful
The FBH in the D3 won't turn on when commanded from a T91, but it understands the command perfectly, and responds with the correct response. It's not clear to me if the FBH itself is programmed to ignore the command, or if the car notices what's happening via CANBUS and turns it off again. I suspect it's the former, because of the lack of timer period negotiation from the remote (pressing both buttons doesn't allow the timer period to be set/changed).
The 1533 timer sends a slightly different command, which the heater will accept.
In an ideal world, I'd investigate if the firmware in the T91 receiver could be patched to change the default message, but there's a solidly fixed screening can preventing me getting a good look at the PCB and I'm not inclined to rip it off a perfectly good receiver unit without good reason.
I have a small microcontroller board thats intended to sit between the T91 and the FBH, effectively pretending to be a 1533 timer. The hardware all works, just haven't finished up my software for it yet.
I'll share more details if/when I get it working.
