Question about changing door handles - 1 piece to 2 piece
I purchased a set of java black door handles that I'm going to put on my D3 if it's possible. I have an '05 D3 with the single piece molded handles. The handles I've purchased are the newer version that come in two (2) pieces (the color part snaps down on top of the black plastic part). I've searched the site but cannot determine if it's possible to replace my older handles with these new two (2) piece versions. I'm fearing that I may have purchased handles that won't work on my D3. Is it possible? And how? Door cards off?

I suppose it doesn't take long to drop a door card off, take off an existing handle and compare them side-by-side to see whether old and new are compatible?06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Yeah I suppose I should do that. Wiggs sent me the instructions for replacing the handles but the LR directions are so cryptic I can barely figure out what the directions mean. I'll give it a go and see what happens.16 D4 Landmark

You don't need to take the door cards off
Take the clip off right hand side of the handle on the car ( like the removable one for the key on passenger side )
These are more likely to break .. There about £4
Then you slide the handle towards the rear and slide it outG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Thanks again Wiggs. So with these new 2 part type handles I can still replace without door card removal?16 D4 Landmark

that i cant answer ...cause i dont know if there the correct ones ...just take an old one out and compare ...or go to LR and see if they have one in the stores you can match up with
if there the same ..then yes you dont have to remove the door cards
took mine off a few times ..only takes 5 mins to remove all 4G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Update: these two (2) piece handles are a straight swap and can be put on your D3 without removing the door cards. The change could take less then five (5) minutes for all four (4) handles. The old handle and new two (2) piece type are identical except for the painted snap on cover. I have a 2005 so I'm assuming they would work with any model year D3. Thanks for the input and instruction Martin and Wiggs.
