No, the TDV8 will be history in the not too distant future. Been told by my dealer (not prone to b*llsh*t) & a reliable source who works for LR & is a member here
Been discussed already here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic23329.html?highlight=

Well the TDV8 is still here and is being released in the new FF/405
I think they wouldn't put it in the D3 as you would need to be a member of OPEC to drive it! 15.5MY XS in Corris Grey with Black & Almond leather

I would think the mpg difference would be minimal over a tdv6.
But the transformation of the car would be superb. Much faster all round at all speeds with huge tuning ability.
Shame it never happened but then it would likely steal sales from the RRS and FFRR. In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

If you look at the real time consumption difference between a TD6 & TDV8 FFRR, i think you would see a 6-8mpg drop from a TDV6 - TDV8 which would make it really poor "as if it aint poor enough now in a TDV6"...
Just my opinion... 15.5MY XS in Corris Grey with Black & Almond leather

My 3.6 TDV8 FFRR did 27mpg. Thought it was rough as hell, very poor engine for such an expensive car...
The 2.7 TDV6 in my Discovery does about 29mpg. Smooth (ish) but woefully underpowered.
I am liking the easy 45mpg and smooth whoosh of power I get from the 3.0 TDi V6 in my A8 though... ____

Real world FFRR TD6 30+ TDV8 a struggle to achieve 25
I have 10+ customers that have changed in the last 12 months from a TD6 to a TDV8 and not one of them are happy with real world MPG figures...
Three of them drive long long distance and could achieve 32, 33 & 34 mpg from the TD6 and none of them can get over 23 mpg in their newer TDV8's
Hence my statement that if the TDV6 is slightly worse than the TD6 , how would the TDV8 econemy work in a LR3? 15.5MY XS in Corris Grey with Black & Almond leather

We have similar customers who have gone from low-mid 20's in their TD6, and still have the same mid-20's in their TDV8, despite the extra 80hp. Those who have committed to a remap have reported a 2mpg improvement in a TDV8
FWIW, I ran a TD6 back and forward between my work and home for around 5 weeks. 33 miles each way, motorway is 32 miles of that, and I averaged 24.4mpg. This was with CC set at 60mph at all times.
Our company director had a TD6 too, drove it to Le Mans and back, averaged 19mpg @ 80-ish mph...
Similar driving in both TDV6's and TDV8 see slightly better figures My D3 Build Thread

FYI i think there is some confusion between the 3.6 TDV8 as fitted to the SSRR's and the 4.4 TDV8 currently fitted to FFRR's (L322/405)
The engines are very different in size externally and weight.
The 3.6 could easily be plonked into a D3/4 BUT LR SV cant be bothered with the hardwork, As other members who want a RHD V8 petrol have found out
Not really Special Vehicles to me, more like, too much hard work = NO...
IMO i think if you could get all the gubbins from an SSRR thats been bent then you would be ok as most of the systems are in the D4 anyway and the main bits of ECU, Loom and so on could likely be salvaged. The mounts wont be too dis-similar either FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner
Test piloted a new D4 XS SDV6.. Gone and being forgotten i hope!!

PS the brembos are great as they are the easiest set of calipers to swap pads on

Emmisions and average fuel economy is the death knell for the V8 diesel (unfortunately).
The new L405 is so much lighter is why the V6 has been slotted in. The offering of V8 still is part o the transitional step whilst people 'get used to' where it's all heading (did you ever, and I mean EVER, expect a one litre Mondeo.....).
My opening line uses the word 'unfortunate' as whilst the L405 is awesome even with the V6, jump into an older L322 with the V8 and it just has 'something' the newer V6 doesn't have....

I would bet that the "something" is a higher and more importantly, a flatter torque curve which gives better mid range acceleration.

No engine, and I mean no engine, sounds as good as a V8! Even a diesel. Oh what a sound
They make a one litre Mondeo? Good grief, 'normal' Mondeos are bad enough! You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

1.0 litre, 3 cylinder, 123bhp, 170Nm (200+ on boost) and the block is size of A4 piece of paper
Plenty more available to wring out as well.....
All the manufacturers are heading this way; look at VAG's 1.2TFsi (just gone into the Octavia). See the downsized engine 'creep' in last few years, 1.6's (diesel and petrol) now main size again in many family cars and pretty big cars in some cases
