Evening all I’ve asked this over on the full fat forum but no replies unfortunately, tje D3 and the full fat 4.4 TDV8 have similar viscous fans I’m trying to see if mine is bad, I’ve lost the howl on start up so wanted to see if others could see how there fans work, in the morning I can move the fan but it won’t spin freely, after a 49mike run I can still spin the fan again it won’t spin freely but isn’t locked up does this sound normalRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

mine seems the same as yours (05 d3) as for the roar on startup is goes thru stages of doing it and not, has been like this for the 8yrs ownership used to worry me but don't give it a second thought anymore
it seems to me that all the stars need to be in line for this to happen but i haven't figured out what the line is yet please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

The most important operation is that it locks up when the engine gets very hot, for example after a long drive and the car becomes stationary, if it doesn’t lock up in this situation serious engine damage will be done through overheating, in cold weather during winter it may never lock up.
Development must have been made to the fans as I have never had this start up roar with the D4.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Any engine fault codes coming up?
I have a fan speed low, or similar coming up now, and realise I've not heard the fan on start up as was usual. No fault light just stored code.
Did a quick check with IID tool and fan was turning at 2-300 rpm on start up, but when a/c was turned on went up to 1500rpm or so.
Will do further checks of this myself over the weekend, hopefully.
