With rear lights I think the MOT only checks that they operate and have a CE mark..I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Thanks all
as for MOT yes passed with no issues on lights so thats why I never really bothered you would have thought someone would have picked it up with 2 mots.if they are faulty.
I have sent an email to powerfuluk and asked if there is an error in the fitted resistor or any other problem such as incorrect LEDs fitted
I will let you know when I do.
And yes I agree that the original lights look so much better for the D3 why I paid £225 sods for those I don't know.
As for covering them with a wrap,I done that late this afternoon, waste if time a very very marginal darker outcome, would be ok if the lights had the correct luminosity to start with.
So unless I get some joy from powerfuluk I suppose they will have to be put on the shelf and forgot about.pete truckle

If powerful won’t exchange, ask them for the correct resistors and fit them yourself.
They are either missing, mis fitted or not working.
No need to shelve them! Resistors are pence (well… they used to be until the world broke!) you just need to be advised of the correct ones.A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

The resistors are only there to apply a load to the indicator circuit, they'll not change the brightness of the led'sRichard

Those are the load resistors, fitted in parallel with the led unit, to increase the current drawn.
There will be current limiting resistors within the led circuit that limit the current and thus the brightness of the leds BUT these may be completely integrated into the circuit and not changeable. However, there is nothing lost if you add a resistors in series with the complete led unit and see what happens.
Make sense?.

I will wait and see what PUK say before I do anything,I will post a picture of the rear light and you can see the resistor fitted as said it's for the indicators to flash in the correct sequence.
There is no access to the LEDs as it seems to be totally sealed.
Makes me wonder how many other D3 owners are driving around or discarded their upgraded tail lights
The two grey covers in the pictures I guess are just back plate screw's securing the LEDs before sealing the unit together.
I will look at fitting some sort of resistance, voltage regulator after PUK get back to me,with the help from the forum please.
Thanks again for all your inputs very much appreciated.

Ps I removed bulbs and wiring to show that's there is nothing else to remove or add to change the LEDs brightness and to help anyone to assist where to fit any resistance.

I was wondering if you could run the side light wire though a 5W bulb 5W5 before it goes to the LEDs.
I am worried this maybe too dim though, so you should compare with another car at night.
You could shove a 5w bulb into the side marker, by drilling a hole in the square section by the push in mount point.
If the 5W bulb fails, it would also turn off all the LEDs which isn't great.
you can also get physically bigger capless bulbs in 15W (used for 3rd brake light on french cars )
maybe orange 10W for motorbikes
and in a different fitting, 10W and 21W (would not fit in side marker) but could shove elsewhere. So some other options to try to get the right brightness.
Hell you could even parallel the bulbs up to get the right brightness, which would improve the safety of 1 bulb failing

Thanks I will look at that next week or I may decide to part with them all depends on what PUK suggest.

Hi I just got back from Norfolk today so as promised here is the update on my rear lights situation
Power uk have been extremely helpful and have sent me replacement wiring looms for the rear lights free of charge let's hope this fixture's the problem
I will look at the lights tomorrow and give an update.

Hi
Well the loom seems to have sorted out the lights, they are much softer and not so blinding.
A good result thanks to powerfuluk and the forum
Thank you all for your input.
