Suspension low

Hi all

Come out this morning to see suspension low asf

Turned engine on and it raised to normal.

Measured height and went out in another car

Come back and it does seem to have lowered a bit

Here’s the codes

RLM ride level module does not have any codes. Is this the correct module?

Am I overthinking this or does it look like a leak?

If so why no code? Does the car not register codes for air escaping maybe?

How am I best progressing from this please?

Thanks

Just made the picture abit shaper so easier to read

Plus what’s your battery voltage with the engine off and then running , are these all new codes , have u sorted out everything , including ur EGR’s and have u blanked them plse, thks

If all ok, have u checked ur BCM for any water ingress, pins / wires all ok

Hope that helps

Measurements I didn’t get but used a phone as visual. I’ll take for a run, calibrate suspension, measure height, then remeasure tomorrow morning

EGR has been deleted

Voltage I don’t know but I’ll get a multimeter if that’s the best tool to use?

BCM water ingress I haven’t a clue where to look? But it’s been sunny for weeks and not been in any wet if that concludes or could it be water from air con maybe? Or humidity?

I did use the car winch to pull up a marquee pole 3 days ago. Which did put a lot of strain on the winch. I did leave running for 5 minutes after to charge back up however.

Also have been towing 3.5 tonnes which may have been nose heavy more than 150kgs

Hi

Indeed see what it is at normal height done the usual way of measuring from centre if wheel to bottom of wheel arch liner in mm

Might be ok and it’s a leak, but best to check first to ensure there correct, then pull fuse F26 and leave overnight and then re measure to see if it’s changed

Great the egrs are done

Yes, multimeter is the best thing to use, check with the engine off then engine running , when u was winching did u have the engine running and have u got a split charge system or just the one

Ref the BCM, that might be down to just low battery voltage , pins can turn green , but no point worrying as need to ensure all basic checks have been done first

So first check ur battery , then suspension measurements , and can then go from there , Plse let us know what both the battery measurement are plse

Hope that helps u

Ok thanks!

So I’ve cleared codes. Calibrated suspension. Removed F26. Measured all wheels.

I’ll return in morning and compare heights.

Whilst thinking about battery.. I realised I’d left the winch switched on. It had been on since Thursday.
Unsure if this is possibly related.

I’ll get a multimeter tomorrow and come back with results.

Thanks again

Ur so welcome

Awesome u got that done, out of curiosity what were ur measurements in normal ride height please before u calibrated it

Plus will be interesting to see what they are in the morning

indeed know if the battery is low can cause all sorts of issues , if u used ur winch with the engine off that would have given it a hammering

At least in the morning we will know if the suspension has dropped , plus the voltage and can then go from there

Other members with winches will be able to advise better if it’s advisable to get a split charge system when a winch is installed to prevent ur main one getting drained

Plse let us know how u get on

Hiya

Just updating this

The front was 460mm and rear 485mm

Here are the losses of height for each wheel:

Front left - 2cm
Front right - 1/2 cm
Rear right same
Rear left - 1.5cm

As for the switched charge thing. I’ll look at that at a later date as I’m presuming this is a sign of leak?

I’ve not been able to get a multimeter

And looking online it appears that it’s more likely an air leak than battery? Based on there being the recorded drops in height with f26 removed

Ive seen some videos… am I best then spraying soapy water on top of the air strut 3 bolts. Also fully extend the height and spray the rubber casing? Are there any likely areas I should also target please?

Updating again…

Put car in extended mode. Removed fuse 3 and 26. Measured the wheels

The front left has lost 1 inch. Rest of car is same.

Fronts were 21.6
Rear 22.4

Measured from bottom of hub cap to mod hoard trim

Front left went down to 20.5

Hi

Apologises didn’t see this sooner, indeed best to get hold or buy a multimeter , will really help , or even get a plug in volt meter so u can see 100% what ur battery voltage is, but multimeter would be better as u can then test it on the battery itself

Onto ur leak, had the same with mine , front left , would only leak in off road height as the rubber became exposed , if it’s just that front left that’s dropping u have a leak from the front valve block to the strut or the strut itself

Did use one of those long reach garden sprayers full of soapy water , also tested it off the disco

Ended up replacing both front struts and were the originals , see if u can find the leak

Hope that helps

Ps, Pics of where I found them leaking

Thanks

Do you think it would be ok to drive for a while while I figure out my options?

How long would you say it would take to remove a strut etc?

I don’t have an air line to pressurise mine off the car

Ur so welcome , Must admit drive mine locally for a little while until I could change them, never went onto a motorway , just 30mph roads just in case , never heard one burst but of course best to find the leak ASAP

Took me a few hours each side to change , top bolts were the hardest , did have to buy a bigger rated torque wrench for the bottom bolt , torque wrench went up to around 300nm

Don’t need an airline, I just done that to test them again when I removed them

Assume u have a decent trolly jack and axle stands , I also fitted new drops links at the same time , had to cut them off with a Dremel , plus coppaslip the bottom bolt , bought dunlop struts

Shame ur not closer as would have helped u change them , please also make sure to test the top voss connection and at the front valve block that none of the fittings are leaking

Hope that helps
