oil patches - Should I be worried 😟

Morning guys,

Over the last few weeks and following a recent service, I have noticed two small (1.5” circumference) distinct oil patches on the road that appear on a daily basis under my Discovery 3.

Looking at the location under the vehicle, they’re coming from the area in the photos which is pretty much inline with the wing mirrors and steering wheel in terms of how far back from the front of the car they are.

Any ideas where the problem is and what it would take in terms of time and cost at my indie to repair?
Should I be worried?
Should I keep driving it short distances?

Be honest with you - I Censored my pants when I initially saw it but it doesn’t appear to be getting worse. The patch on the road is bigger but that’s because I park in the same spot each day so the two spots just get added to each day - if that makes sense?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

 Mick

Check the front diff oil level as it may be the input shaft oil seal leaking. This can happen if diff breather is blocked or the oil seal worn. Reasonably easy replacement if it is.

Is it definitely oil on your drive? It could be old oil mixing with the a/c drain water.

Thanks very much for the input to date guys, really appreciate it.

I think there’s something to be said for the first suggestion of a leak from the fuel filter. I said oil as it leaving a dark stain on the toad but it’s not a dark, shiny stain and actually fades in the sun. If I wipe my finger on the part of the vehicle wear it looks to be leaking, it’s not a thick liquid and washes off my fingers easily.

The other thing is that the fuel filter was changed in early May so there has been ‘movement’ in that area recently.

I also like the suggestion of AC drain water, however, I guess the AC needs to be running for it to be that, however, more often than not when driving locally, the AC is off and I have the window open.

At this point someone is going to suggest smelling it but I kid not, I don’t have a brilliant sense of smell or I defo would be.

Yep looks like the fuel filter leaking.
I suspect they changed the fuel filter on the service & the drain/water in fuel sensor is leaking.
I would take it back & get them to inspect. Should be an easy fix.

regards
Steve

Could be an oil sweat, could be from a combination of things. Overfilling the oil, even by a pint or two, raises oil pressure at the seals, and old seals can "Sweat" a little.

An old D3 did this for a few years until I sold it. Even got put on the MOT, but a LR trained mechanic running an Indy said it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary and not to worry about it.

I’d try to clean it up as suggested and then if you can see where it’s coming from …….

Agree with the above, take the undertrays off for a better look...

I've had an interment weep/leak for abbout a year.

Long story short had the D3 for 5yrs and just turned over 100k miles - so had a big service this week which included the oil pump and belts which found the oil seal on the pump to be the culprit Shocked and had tracked across the undertrays back to the cross member with the air flow...
