I also got told this on a Land Rover experience day and we did try it - it was brilliant
Useful for the front seat passenger to stop the car if the driver suffers from a medical problem say a heart attack etc

if you hold the brake switch on it will activate an emergency stop ,and bring in the abs to ensure you stop in a straight line..its designed to do that RTFM

Surely it’s no different to being able to turn the key in a non push button car?
