Just curious Harold, but what engine was that spun bearing on?

I presume it is a spun bearing, as i opened the filter and that was full of debris... (unlike in this topic)
engine is in my workshop but still not opened up, as i rebuild myself another engine first and drive that one now..

But we have to be carefull, not to hijack this topic, so if more questions.. an otherway?

I had a topic with filter pictures

Hi the oil pump was changed to the stronger version a couple of years back so it won't be from there. No other work carried out to the engine in the last 12 month which may have left swarf.

I think I have lost the battle to keep the old girl going. Its just not a viable option to throw yet more money at an aging vehicle that has had significant sums spent on it already.

Just have recovery cover (AA/RAC/GF/etc) in place, then you can get it back to your drive for a bit of impromptu stripping. Thumbs Up Whistle

Hehe,

Yeah, I've always made sure we have Autoaid cover knowing I have a low loader on standby should it be required!

In that case I'd do as Gareth suggests. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

if we're assuming it's bits of bearing ... why not chuck a carton of slick-50 or similar in to reduce friction in the bearings ?

yes ... i know jury is out on this stuff.

I used Slick 50 back in the 80's when it first came on the market. I only ever used it on "known to be good" engines but I had mixed results as it seemed to work better with smaller engines. You always knew when it was doing something because the idle speed would increase.

The trick if I remember correctly was to have the engine hot before adding it. Don't know if it is of any benefit in this scenario.
