Swmbo had a Beetle cabrio that developed a loud knock when turning either way. After a week or two of hearing about it and a test drive to confirm I had a look and found it was one of my Dad’s old wooden walking sticks sliding about in the boot 🤗

Right, got my car back.
It’s been smoke tested for a 2nd time, and that seems to have ruled out a cracked inlet manifold.
He found that one of the Turbo actuators was sticking, so it’s been cleaned and seems to be moving freely now. The system has been vacuum checked, and all appears well.
He’s run Forte Turbo cleaner through it and had it out 4 or 5 times, with no faults.....time will tell"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Sounds similar to the issue reported by Nigel207 - if so then useful to know as we have a D4 of similar vintage.
Fingers crossed that is the cause Euan Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

It does indeed sound like the same issue as Nigel’s
I got the car up to temperature and gave it a good blast on the way home...all was well and it certainly pulled very well. As it’s an intermittent fault I’ll have to wait and see, but whatever it is/was it doesn’t look like the manifold so that’s something at least"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

My MY2010 D4 has thrown up the error P1247-00 (2F) Turbocharger boost pressure low on very irregular occasions. However, during the lockdown when I'm using my car about once a week, it does appear to happen on most trips, usually when I leave the supermarket. Performance is affected, bit clearing it returns the car to normal.
I'm guessing/hoping it is the turbo actuator being a bit stiff. I should really try to spray with WD40 and loosen a bit. Hopefully that will be a cure for me.
Regards,
Steve

I hope it’s fixed Euan. Ours ONLY did it when towing (perhaps because normally I drive like miss Daisy when solo?), and I couldn’t get it to do it without regardless of how hard I tried. However, following a holiday to Luxembourg when it did it twice (once near home when we were on the way to the ferry at Hull (it often did it at the same place - climbing up a hill from a roundabout when reaching c.50mph), and then after we’d stopped for lunch in Belgium and again set off uphill) I’d had enough, so got it looked at. Obviously I can’t remember the fault code now, but it was something to do with boost and turbo, and the indi that I used managed to get it to do it when they tried.

along the lines of ''driving like Miss Daisy''
I have always driven my cars quite hard from time to time, but without thrashing them. So I end up with a mix of just pootling round nice and easy and then every so often giving it some beans.
I was told by a main dealer years ago, with my first Astra GTE, that 'this type of car is designed to be driven hard some of the time'.
Now with a lump like the SDV6, it will sit quite happily at 1100rpm at 50mph all day long in a high gear, no strain on engine and components and very relaxing. Then occasionally on the right roads giving it a blast rarely dropping below 1800rpm or so, not for long but enough to have some fun and give the car a work out through the gears.
What are peoples thoughts on this ? good for the car or bad 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

That was the last advice I was given yesterday on picking the car up.....give the engine a good leathering every now and then
To be fair, it’s something I’ve always done, but not for a while.....perhaps related ?....who knows"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

my thoughts being that it would blast any residues or coked up areas clear, give both turbos a spool up (even though the 2nd one turns over periodically anyway under 2800rpm).
im seriously considering an Alive remap once we are allowed, after ive got all the oils and fluids changed and hopefully found somewhere locally to flush the gearbox.
Not for performance purposes but just to 'realign' a 9 year old engine and ease some flat spots out, plus try and cure the initial hesitation when pulling away where you get nothing then suddenly it kicks into life.
I plan on keeping this car for a while as I absolutely love it so ill give it all the TLC I can to help keep costs down. So far in 10k miles and 10 months its not missed a beat 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Whilst I often drive gently, since the issues with the old car I do give it some boot from time to time for that very reason. It also seems much easier to keep the revs up with the “new” car and 8-speed gearbox rather than the “old” 6-speed. After all, unless you do something stupid you can’t over-rev the things.

I think the only way you could over rev an automatic is to keep overriding the Gearbox ECU by constantly downchanging and keep it in the red line. in D or S mode, whether its fully auto or command shift, it wont let you over rev.
But why would you want to keep redlining it ? Only a foolish owner with bottomless pockets would intentionally try and blow a Disco up 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Balls.....it’s back
Same script as before ie after a supermarket visit.
No issues on the way there under mixed driving, sat in the car park for an hour or so and threw its toys out the pram 100 yards after pulling away.
3 faults detected and addressed, and it’s still not happy "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
