I was looking at the new defender to replace my D4 Commercial but the back door is no good as it only opens to 90 degrees and can. Not be folded back to 180, when lifting heavy motors into the rear its a 2 man lift and the door prevents you getting close enough to load so the D5 Commercial with the V6 will be my next vehicle just waiting to see the MY21 spec as there are some face lift zebras out testing, My D4 has just hit 96000 so can get 1 more years of extended warranty to allow me some time to see what changes for MY21. Talking of value for money, my son-in-law just took delivery of a top of the range brand new Kia Sorrento GT-Line S, yesterday for £32,000 which included a removable towbar and electrics. Looking at all the standard equipment and considering it has a 7 year warranty makes you wonder if its worth paying the sort of prices JLR are asking for their cars nowadays ?

Is that the diesel V6 that's been in the RRS for a few years? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they were always going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT DOWN AND TALK!"

Not sure, I’ve never paid a great deal of interest in the RRS (no split tailgate) other than two friends who have SVR’s.
It’s the 306bhp 700nm twin turbo V6 diesel. Figures are from memory, so happy to be corrected. I think it’s new(ish) to the D5.
A vast improvement over the TDV6, which I didn’t like. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

It’s the engine that should’ve been in it from launch but no LR removed a turbo and gave us oil dilution for an increased price. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Why is having to “get over it” even an option, let alone a necessity?
Most members here have had a very close look at them and driven at least one of them; you’re right, in so far as the much higher prices have made them unaffordable for many and while a handful have bought one, a larger number have hung on to what they’ve got or changed to something else, many having been lost to LR altogether. It’s a free market and there’s no need to examine, dislike and yet still buy 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Agreed. The TDV6 was a weird step backwards, but the Sd6 is at least two steps forward. I’d only hope that the engine’s bottom end has been suitably upgraded to cope with the extra power. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Truly the ugliest Land Rover built yet by a country mile. I would have happily swapped mine last year when it was 3 years old if the 5 was different. I'm in limbo now not knowing what to change for. The advantage of buying rather than renting cars I guess means it costs me nothing whilst I decide.

I think this is whats annoyed me most of all its the perfect fit for me and its been ruined by a poor rear end design . I had a good look at one recently and internally i really like it, externally the fronts right but it goes to rat the further back you go.
Cost isnt my issue as im probably going to go FFRR next but i really want to buy another disco just not one that is embarrassing visually IMO. MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

It’s very frustrating indeed There’s a lot good about it, especially now it has the Sd6 engine, although as RM says I wonder how robust it is. It’s just a few bits of poor design, that aren’t even necessary, that ruin the complete package. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Unless your D4 is appreciating in value, you’re losing money every day.
I was in limbo for ages as well. Making a list of what I wanted from a replacement and then prioritising it lead me to a used FFRR, but even that had to be a specific year (MY17), engine and spec.
and of course it’s not as practical and versatile as the D4. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Eh?
It would just have been so much easier to have just bought a 7th Discovery. One that was a direct replacement for the previous 6 I’d owned. By your own admittance, the D5 isn’t a direct replacement for the D4.
I sleep well, helped no doubt by the thought of the permagrin that I’ll get from driving the SDV8 and the reassurance of the knowledge that despite its looks at least one person loves the D5. 😀 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
