With 6 days on the train in a small compartment it’ll deffo be SWMBO that did it!!
Re the train, yes it’s one of the 3 routes loosely labelled the Trans-Siberian. We’re doing the Trans Mongolian route, via Ulan Batar, as opposed to the route to Viadivostock or NE China skipping Mongolia. And yes, in one hit. It’s too late in the year to be faffing around with stops. All visas sorted, just got to stock up on essentials at the supermarket opposite the station. Not really planning to do much before that, SWMBO’s developed a bit of a cold so taking it easy.

Hope Mrs D feels better, I hear Russian Vodka is a well known cold cure
Looking forward to seeing some pics of train/scenery across Mongolia providing Monsieur Piorot doesn't slap the bracelets on Mrs D Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

She’s doing OK thanks. An orange raincoat, yellow tea-cosy hat and bright red nose, not going to loose her any time soon.
Now in the Burger King near Yaroslavsky station, only 9 hours until the train.
Re vodka, SWMBO prefers the merlot method of curing a cold. A few good glasses and sleep it off. And the cold.
I might not survive saying that but living on the ragged edge.

Are you stocking up your berth on the train with six days of Merlot from the supermarket or is there a Merlot wagon on the train? 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

We are assuming no ability to stock up on trip. Luckily luggage allowance is 50kg each.

I need to go and weigh a full bottle of Merlot now. If I knew the specific gravity I could maybe wrk it out. Then I’d need a drink. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Will you be getting off in those 6 days? I don't know if you saw https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000...2-mongolia the most polluted capital in the wold! But the countryside looked amazing especially on the Grand Tour. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Didn’t see that, luckily will just be passing through. Not stopping to see anything, we did look at that but tbh not a lot floated our boats. The odd building here & statue there & that’s it. We did look at stopping at Irkutsk to see Lake Baikal but the train passes within metres of it anyway. Now if it was frozen, that would be different but we’re far too early.
Only getting off will be very nervous forays on to the platform, watching the train guards like a hawk. Plus we’ll always ask how long we’re stopping. Getting off will either to get food or say we’ve been to ......
PS Mongolia might be for trip #3 or #4.

5 bottles of vino & a couple of packs of bickies. And the Wifie at the x-ray machine muttered “amateur” in Russian. All vino is in the day pack.

I'm sure Mrs D will help keep you warm on Sunday...........or your "special friend"
Why the concern about travelling light? You're going to sat on your ass for the next 6 days I would be more concerned with only packing 5 bottles of vino Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

It’s upper & lower bunks so nobody will be keeping anyone warm.
Agreed re 5 bottles of vino, though SWMBO was happy with only 4 until she said “oh go on then” for the 5th once she realised we’d be going cold turkey on our first night in China. Mind you there is beer on the train, though SWMBO doesn’t like beer! The Mongolian beer is meant to be good, but the fire-water is to be avoided at all costs.
Only 4 hours to go, ours is not even on the board.
