My car is in for a service at the local dealer and they say it needs a new Propshaft Centre Bearing.
Is this something that should go at four years and 47k? Anyone any idea how much to have this done at an Indy? I've asked around but they are still working on prices. Better to be late in this world than early in the next.

To add, they are talking about supplying a whole new prop shaft. However can the bearing only not be replaced? Better to be late in this world than early in the next.

Some have done just the centre bearing... but its not worth the hassle (if you do it yourself) or the Money (if you pay to get it done)!

1 International Harvester SOLD

2 x D4 both SOLD

What you'll probably find is that even if you replace the centre bearing, the chances are the hardy spicer joint at the diff end of the prop is also worn.
I ended up replacing the whole prop on mine as have most people on this forum. A new OEM (GKN) rear propshaft is about £200+VAT and only takes an hour to fit.
Messing around with the centre bearing takes a lot longer, is a bit of a pain in the and is very difficult to seal back up properly afterwards. Kev

Thanks for the info all. Local LR dealer has quoted £850 for a new one.
Got two Lr indies near me who I hope will be cheaper!
Not confident enough to do it myself. Wipers, fluids and Pads/disks is my limit! Better to be late in this world than early in the next.

The usual consensus is to replace the prop and not try and just do the bearing. My understanding is that it needs to sealed/pressed if just the bearing and that is nigh on impossible (at least to do it properly).
And a GKN prop from someone like Advanced Factors is not close to that price quote....and still shouldn’t be close with fitting. MY2008 D3 - It got me hooked...gone
MY2012 D4 - It kept me hooked...gone
MY2007 D3 - Mid-Life crisis toy continues driving me to bankruptcy...
MY2018 "D5" Si6 - But is it a "true" LR...discuss...but now gone
Back in a D4 with a lot of extras....

My 2016 (reg Aug 2015) D4 HSE failed its MOT on this very fault a few weeks ago - £495 + fitting... I 'threw a wobbler' and they paid under 'good will"..... but - car bought from them and a 5 year service plan... but not extended warranty - as they wouldn't cover any future crank shaft failure.... :-{ 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I too think it is outrageous for a part to fail at 47k.
Warranty Direct cover the crank shaft I believe. Better to be late in this world than early in the next.

Mine has gone at 5 years and 35k miles. Never been off road or abused. Replaced with a GKN which WD have agreed to pay. Gary
