2016 Lux with 27,800 on clock and after service week or so ago told exactly the same thing. Not abused and don’t drive a lot but still they say it’s gone. Interesting that one just failed mot for this fault as mine was mot 3 days before service and passed with no advisories

Could someone let me know is it an easy job to replace. Have done a few before on other makes and pretty straight forward but this is a Landrover. Are there any special sockets needed to remove it. Found this on another I did that torq sockets needed.

Yes it's easy enough. As per my post above, it took me an hour to fit my new one.
You will need 'E' sockets. Kev

Having just had mine replaced at 35kmiles and 5 years . All on road driving and never abused, I’m wondering if there is a driving style or habit that makes these go quicker? For instance keeping your foot on the brake and leaving in gear when waiting ? Any thoughts? Gary

Only thing I would add is it was a PITA to torque up the bolts on the diff whilst lying on your back. I'm a not a small guy either.

I see it was said about the bearing and being a mot failure just so I have got it right when I talk to the garage that serviced it, is this a failure. I thought to see the bearing that the heat shield had to be removed.

I am a bit amazed by the short lifespan of the rear prop bearing reported here. I sold my previous 2006 D3 at 270.000 km, still with the original prop shaft and my current 2011 D4 is at 280.000 km also still with the original prop shaft. I am checking it regularely just waiting to change it but it seems to hold up.

What is the symptom of failure? I'm 280,000km on my D4 and I don't have any suspicion of an issue. I presume it's a rumble through the body increasing with vehicle speed?

I didn't have a symptom on mine. I just noticed it when the body was off. Kev

How did they spot it on an MOT? Is your heatshield missing? Kev

Heat shield over a prop shaft ... or do you mean adjacent heat emitting stuff? I've no idea but will have a look if someone can tell me what I'm looking for .. please!
It was bought new and serviced by same LR dealer - so hopefully they would have told me if things were missing? 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I assume it's to shield it from the exhaust and protect it from mud and dirt which may throw it off balance.
See the video of mine below, you'll see the aluminium shield slung below the prop.

Thanks for that - had a look under the car and couldn't see the prop shaft as it looks like a heat shield is there.... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black
