Must admit I found the D5 TD6 very hesitant at times. Hopefully the SD6 306hp for the 19MY is better.
Interesting, I did wonder if it was just the one I'd driven. Not having driven any others. The SD6 in the RRS is a little "peaky" for my tastes, especially if I was to use it off road, but goes it goes like
With the right mapping for the D5, it should be a significant improvement.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

It was one of my bug bares with the 5
2.0 240 in my Velar was pretty hesitant but it had a few updates while it was in getting a new shock. Seems a lot better now.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

If it's the same 2.0 240 that I've driven in the DS, it's an impressive engine. I didn't find any hesitation at all.
I did find that you needed to keep it in the "power band" rev wise, to get the best out of it in spirited driving. That's not a criticism, just an observation and totally understandable considering its displacement.
I only ever drove it either on my own or with one passenger though. I did wonder how it would cope with all 7 seats in use or in the bigger/heavier Velar and D5 when they're fully laden.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

LT: It was an odd thing driving the V6 again. It was so similar to that in the D4, but it kept hunting between gears at slow speeds and any need for even medium acceleration was met with a pause, a downshift and then a surge of acceleration. To drive it nice and smoothly I needed to have a feather light right foot. It was almost reminiscent of (but not as bad as) the turbo lag in an early petrol turbo (Saab, anyone?).
I wondered if I’d just forgotten what they were like and then remembered finding exactly the same thing stepping out of the D4 SDV6 and into a FF TDV6 on a test drive. The torque curves are very similar on paper, but the drive just isn’t the same. Really curious, but certainly noticeable the very first time you pull out of a junction and merge into moving traffic.
That's it exactly. You never owned a 2.7 D3, but it was a similar experience to what you've described above.
I've never driven the 3.0 FFRR, only the V8 diesel. 8)2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Rich I’ve known you a long time and you aren’t like it in person but when a keyboard is in front of you you do bait and inflame, to say you weren’t baiting Tom is a joke, after 14 years I’m fed up with the forum. Paul, you too have played your part, so as far as I'm concerned we are all guilty m'laud. Look nobody died ...it's just a metal thing with 4 wheels and some windows that some can see out of
Anyway, I'm off out for a drive

Yeah they’re all the same. The Velar is good now and you’re right the 240 is a cracker, I’m usually in dynamic setting and sport mode with my flappy paddles when I fancy unleashing a few horses so revs harder anyway, it brings out my inner child
I was at the garden centre yesterday and left with a boot full of bags of Cotswold stone and various other bits and pieces, it pulled well, not sure what the D5 would be like though the Higways Agency is using the 2.023.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

On a positive note the these threads aren’t quite like the “discussion” the guys had over on the mini forum.... yet.
