So Unless I can find some tyres better in the snow /ice that I can leave on all year then I may need to decide not to drive it for a few days every 3 years when we have snow. Any suggestions on a good all round , all season tyre that would be better than the scorpions on snow?

Probably doesn’t help you where you are but... I use studded winter tires, have the winter program enabled at all times and have absolutely no problems getting the D3 to do what I want it to do. This regardless whether I’m driving on a soft snowy countryside road, hard packed snow or on icy roads with no snow.

The only thing you must remember is that it is fairly heavy so the braking distance is a bit longer - no way around physics, really. The studs really do help, particularly on ice, compared to non-studded friction type of tires.

I would not drive with summer tires in the winter but that is just my opinion as a person who lives in a place where there is snow or winter-y conditions 3-5 months of the year in the south of the country and 5-7 months of the year in the far north.

Perhaps the other option, as you said yourself, would be not to drive that week
