While the D5 may have finally driven me away from the Disco camp, I am very grateful for its effect on D4 residuals I've followed the value of mine very carefully over the last 6 months and (despite adding 2,500 to 3,000 miles per month) the used value has barely declined at all - not bad for a newly obsolete car
Going back to the question originally asked in the thread, the other things (that haven't previously been mentioned) that have driven me away are:
1. The lack of split tailgate (the electric plank only serves to underline Gerry McG's complete lack of understanding of why people bought this car!)
2. The lack of glass area and the extremely high waste line for the poor dog stuck on the boot.
3. The rubbish view out of the back window and paper clip sized rear wiper with a very limited sweep.
4. The visibility problems from the combination of very thick C and D pillars.
5. The impossibility of seeing the two front corners of the car from the driver's seat.
6. The high boot floor (though, to be fair, the FF has the same design fault).
7. The lack of an adaptive Xenon option.
8. Having misjudged the market, there must be a big question mark over residuals for the 5.
9. Minimal rear light visibility when the tailgate is open (rather you than me when unloading on a busy roadside at night).
10. The dire roof rack options (again, to be fair, a fault shared with the FF).
11. A substantially increased turning circle.
12. A sunroof that's too far back to be of much use to the driver.
13. And now, the killer blow - no greens and no reds! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

On my daily travels up and down the A34, I see lots of LR-loaded transporters, presumably going to the docks. Someone must be buying the D5 because there are a lot on these transporters. It makes me wonder if the D5 has been designed for foreign markets (the US presumably). I still see some D5s being driven on the road but the figure isn't ramping up. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Joining in the thread creep from "reasons not to buy", to "how many I've see on the road", it's interesting that here in Cornwall and Devon, the Land Rover of choice seems to be the D3 and D4, with D5's a very rare sight.
However, while driving up the M5 and M4 to Basingstoke last week, there are noticeably more Range Rovers than we have, but there were quite a few more D5's too. Still not that many though. Sorry if this doesn't help the OP though! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

#16: Father in law's wheelchair does not go upright into the boot of a D5. That would be the end of numerous family trips. Laying it flat would prevent the use of seat #6 and leave hardly any space even when that seat is not needed. Disco4 V6 SC HSE (MY2014)

Having just spent 4 days driving round in a D5. I don't think it's that bad, would I miss the split tailgate... probably but I think the plank will be ok. The infotainment screen kept freezing on the one I had which I complained about when I returned it.

1) Not everyone bought the D4 based on the tailgate
2) You would need to have a French bulldog for it not to see out
3) Rear wiper does a perfect job.
4) cause no problems
5) Easy to judge
6) Not a fault with the D5 but the platform it's built on, as you've pointed out, though the D5 rear can be lowered further than access height.
7) Why adaptive xenons when it has a adaptive LEDs
8) No question mark
9) 2 LED lights in the tailgate that shine down on the Driver, taillights clearly visible
10) Again not a fault with the D5 but LR
11) I wouldn't say substantially
12) wouldn't know, don't like them
13) Again not a fault with the D5 but LR 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

If I'd bought one, I'd probably be fighting hard for the D5 corner too! But, while you nearly every point, they are still the reasons why I and others have now bought elsewhere, so I feel that makes them valid enough
PS: When you lower the boot to the lowest possible setting on the '5, using all of the options available (including the option to dip the back alone), the loading height is exactly the same as the '4 on it's middle setting. This may not be vital to you, but for loading heavy equipment, or for a 9 year old dog to get in and out, it's critical. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Not fighting it's corner, criticism where criticisms due but at least 4 of your criticisms are nonsense and others can be applied to the FFRR as you've pointed out. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I will listen to logical argument, but "nonsense" is not really an argument!
The FFRR was never claimed to be "every bit as practical as the Disco 4" (it isn't), so these things can be allowed for, but the D5 was - so it can be critically judged as such 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
