Vague steering and horrible on rough ground.

When driving over rough ground my steering wheel wobbles and rattles and the steering is also very vague on smooth ground, a bit like i'm driving a proper old fashioned car where your constantly turning the steering wheel side to side!

I have changed the steering rack, inner and outer track rods and lower steering UJ.

I have had an advisory for the last few years that there is play in my nearside lower suspension ball joint and this year also in my offside..........do you think that may be the cause?

Nearside also knocks a bit so could possibly be ARB links too?

I think you've answered your own question. I would say a pair of lower wishbones (which includes the ball joints) would do no harm. Don't forget the geo check afterwards Thumbs Up

Lower ball joints can be changed in situ with the right tool. Ball joints are only £25 for OEM and you don't need alignment after.

Mine was like that, Geoff sorted it out. Can't remember what he replaced but cured it very quickly. Before it was done driving on rough ground used to cause significant knocking / shaking. Been better ever since and it didn't cost a lot from memory.

I've got one of these, once you've got access gets the ball joints out/in no problem.
