One must unlock and lock the cover by sliding the locking mechanism with a screwdriver.
Not simply pull it off
Ready for the off.

Your D4 clearly has car park ding avoidance switched on Gareth. Clearly not an option on the D5 Today is the oldest you've been and the youngest you'll ever be again.

The battery cover is odd, we just took it off to see what was behind, and what it was made of (looks like some sort of recycled material) and despite both Andrew and myself being reasonably mechanically competent, we could not get it back on!
To me it looks like it has some kind of quick release mechanism that broke when Andrew pulled it off too quickly!
On balance, D4 battery covers never fitted properly either!

Some great pics - IMO the D5 looks are very colour dependent if that makes sense - black one just moved in near me - barely gets a second look but saw a grey one with black roof and bigger wheels a weeks or so ago - looked cool, must be something to do with the curvaceous shape

Enjoy both.........I love a good road trip thread!
I've only seen two D5's in the flesh, both near your village Andrew and neither have been yours!
