Have to admit, if one of mine at that age asked for "Heinz low sugar baked beans on seasame toast with low fat fried sausage and poached brown eggs, followed by Mackies Ice cream" they would be wearing it

Shocked

I'd be a dead man walking! We are talking about a 13 year old girl with a hormonal imbalance here. She is blunter than blunt. Ground Hog day today.

I did get my own back last night. I disconnected the Internet server and took it with me to bed at 11pm. Two of them had been on their iPhones (Mum got them PAYG 7's Rolling Eyes ) and paid no attention to me telling them to get off and to sleep. No doubt I will pay the price this morning.

Ours girls are grown up now but they were taught you eat what is put in front of you or you go hungry and you try things at least once, none of this I don't like it without even trying it nonsense, sure they have their dislikes, one doesn't like black pudding and spicy hot food and the other doesn't like chips/crisps, kidneys and bizarrely ginger, although she'll eat Asian food.

I hear what your saying, but I just can't see it happening with any great success, on the food front anyway. I think the damage has been done.

It would be nice if they did things like made their beds, tidied their rooms, vacuumed, put their dishes in the dishwasher, took their washing to the utility, took the dog for a walk. All this has been suggested, but it generally falls on deaf ears. Big Cry

Academically they are bright as buttons, so hopefully they will Censored off to a Uni far, far away. Thumbs Up

...then it will be the uni support staff who have to help them sort their lives out.
When I worked at a uni it was an annual event part way into the first term: A few of the girls would be looking really crap, no food, can't cook, can't shop, can barely make a cuppa and the support staff would be seen as "neutral" and "helpful", so we would have to sort them out.

I got my first job at 11 years old (mid/late eighties), delivering 1500 free newspapers around my folks' village. For the privilege, I got about a half pence per paper. I did this for six months or more over the Autumn/Winter/Spring months until one day my Mum suggested my Dad came with me on a fine Summer's morning at the weekend. That was the last weekend I ever delivered newspapers!!!!

From there, I got a job volunteering at the local RSPCA kennels and/or a wildlife sanctuary looking after various BoP, a Coati called Mandy, some Meerkats and a whole host of other 'normal' animals and did this every weekend and every half term holiday for quite a few years. Because of this, I was never asked for keep, and was always lucky enough to get a meal that - in the most part and occasionally having to pick around the oatmeal Mum sprinkled over everything - I enjoyed. I still had household chores to consider such as washing up after meals and the Dog Censored Patrol, but they took the voluntary work into account.

So what I'm getting at is there is another course of action to take here. Give them the food (liquid or otherwise) they're after and you know they'll eat, but make them bloody work for it.

At 16 and 13, surely they're at an age when, with the right encouragement Whistle , they're able to work for their digs? I'm not necessarily talking about a proper paid-for job, but provide a little help around the house with chores, on a regular basis, and they'll be rewarded!

Purely in the spirit of the fun this thread has engendered I thought it would be helpful if we could predict some career paths for these youngsters based on the life skills they are already displaying. ....

Need a suggestion pro or con, together with reasons.

For instance:
Con = uniformed services - unless of course it is a service that wears onesie.
Con = nursing - as they can't make beds
Pro = politics - as they are very good at getting what they want and need a large support team

over to you and please keep it funny

we instigated tasks, took turns in setting/clearing table and drying up, one did each every night, they soon get in the way of it.
One night when running one of them to a club event, SWMBO stopped halfway and told him to get out of the car, when he protested, she replied that he only did half a job...... it works. You just need to find what works but penalties have to be found, at the end of the day, its for their own good, they will leave your home............. one way or another, even if its you going out in a box!
