I'm averaging about 24 mpg in my 2015 D4, used to get about 22 out of my 2005 D3 with identical use.
Have to agree though, the mis-fueling device is a real PITA. Despite the recent hike in fuel prices the best I can get in from nearly empty is about £78.00. At today's prices I would have easily got £90+ in the D3

I'd forgotten about the difference in tank size. Wasn't it to do with additional emissions equipment, rather than the misfuel device?

I thought the difference in tank size was only 1 ltr, 83l vs 82l?
round town I get maybe 20-21mpg on a long run down to London I can manage about 27 mpg. with the caravan on the back I have just got 17mpg on the gauge so maybe 15mpg. ok I wasn't hanging about with the caravan and it was a run to scarborough so lots of hills. A long run on flatish roads to Skegness with caravan on the back got 21mpg, caravan is about 1900kg loaded
as has been said I can put up with the low MPG for the capabilities of the vehicle especially when towing which it does with ease

Ad Blue isn't going to help your fuel efficiency, if anything your car is probably heavier than before, Ad Blue is to reduce emissions, not increase fuel efficiency..

27-28 mpg sounds about right for me, think you just had a very economical D3 lots on here with nowhere near that figure
My RRS 2.7 never got better than 23 mpg average.
First D4 6 speed 23.5 mpg
D4 8 speed 26.5 mpg
Present Adblue version 27.8 mpg
Remember a brand new motor takes time to bed in and economy usually improves, in my experience after 20k on a D4 fuel consumption improves 1 or 2 mpg.
Short stop start journeys kill the mpg and putting your foot down in bursts does also.
As Del says 60mph is a about best speed for max mpg.
Personally found using the fuel heater to be beneficial overall.
Also found my best fuel figures have always been in the warmer months always see a drop off from Oct Nov time.D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

Mine did ok on a run from Sheffield to catterick sat at 65mph although it's usually not as good as that usually around the 37mpg but I don't know why it's gone so high and the route is mostly inclines too

I cant say I've seen any real difference in either my Old D3 auto, or both D4's (MY12 and MY16), they are all about 24 knocking around town, high 20's (28 ish) bombing up and down the motorway, low'ish 30's (33) if motorway driving like Miss Daisy, 17mpg with tintent on the back hooning through France.
Original Manual D3 was a bit better around town, about the same on the motorway/towing.

My D4 MY2010 did 26mpg average over 7 years (you'd think I'd have given up logging the mileage by the end but no ...)
The current MY2016 is doing 25mpg, but only done 5k winter miles so far.
Those are spreadsheet calculated figures, the onboard computers of both cars reliably (or should that be repeatedly) report 27 to 29 mpg.2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

Mine is 28mpg on a 0.9lepton run, if I stuck at 70mph then it would be early 30s, maybe mid depending on road and amount of accelerating required during the journey.MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

My 2012 D4 always showed over 30mpg if driven steady,
My current 2014 is showing 27 mpg,
The 2012 had 275/40/20 tyres but the 2014 has 255/50/20 I'm putting the differences down to this..

Some good feedback, I don't feel so bad now.
I know the Ad Blu does not improve consumption, just added info for info's sake. Although the stop start is "better" for the planet but I would imagine this uses a bit more fuel also?
Dave T, D3 was manual and although only 2.7 with single turbo it did however have decat, egrs blanked,RS 500 intercooler and an Alive stage 2 map.
Will keep monitoring to see how it fairs.
