D3 - Strange faults:Oil lamp + cabin fan
Hi!
I have a D3 HSE PP MY2005 TDV6 With 210 000 km.
I have had a strange fault for some time now. When unlocking the car the cabin fan starts to go on very low speed, in addition the oil lamp warning light comes on when driving. The cabin fan also gives an instant "puff" when turning on the ignition.
The fault first appeared last spring. I had it checked by dealers Works shop, but no faults regarding oil-Level and oil pressure. Then it all suddenly disappeared late spring last year.. I changed the oil pressure sensor anyway in August.
In Nov-Dec the same faults suddenly appeared again. Both the oil lamp and the cabin fan at the same time. And has been there ever since.
When opening the door locks with the remote key, the fan starts and continue until the car goes in sleep mode if it is not started. If I don`t lock the car and then open the drivers door (left hand car), the cabin fan makes a distinctive "puff" and then continous on very low speed. This does not happen if any of the other doors are opened.
Last week the Air Bag Warning light has been continously illuminated when driving.
I have a BAS Remote to my Webasto, but no connection of this to the cabin fan. I had both the door lock and the ignition lock changed as a warranty matter i jan 2013.
Could there be a fault related to a sensor in the door latch? Anybody experienced anything Close to this?

I don't have my wiring diagrams to hand but the oil pressure switch on the D3 is as simple as it gets - below a set pressure it pulls the switch and therefore the warning bulb to ground. If the warning light is coming on you either have low pressure (real or sensed) or a problem on the ground side between the instrument pack and the oil pressure sensor.
Given your other symptoms it does sound like a wiring issue on the ground side, so start working your way around the harness, but with oil pressure you have to double check that you have not suffered a coincidental low oil pressure.

Thanks Robbie for your reply and suggestions.
I`ll see what I can can sort out! I am not very familiar with electrical fault search.
I also need to replace my cabin fan due to a squeecking noise from the bearings most of the time now. Any suggestions of a supplier in the UK?2005 Disco3 HSE PP Zambesi Silver

When I disconnect the oil pressure sensor, the cabin fan stops. Any suggestions where to look for a bad connection?2005 Disco3 HSE PP Zambesi Silver

might be water related
Had a Oil Pressure wanting light issue a few years ago on my V8 combined with "strange values" for external temperature (jumping between very low and normal temperatures) and I could trace it with the help of the wiring diagram to only one connector in the car that had both signals. Basically water was coming in via the Black Plastic Parts left and right of the windscreen (A-Pillar) and caused the electric gremlins. The Plastic part apparently been a common issue and even a Service Action Bulletin was existing..
In case you suspect that plastic parts do yourself a favour and get new ones instead of fixing the old ones. Part has been "upgraded" several times and the new parts work for years without issues.

During winter time I recall sometimes ice has been shuffled underneath this plastic tightening. It seems quite untight.....2005 Disco3 HSE PP Zambesi Silver
