California, while being frightfully expensive to live in, does indeed offer an incredible array of vastly diverse climatology, topography, geology, and fun. I have a number of adventures scheduled in the next few months. I will post highlights here and/or most definately on my website.

I just came back from CA and loved every mile of it. Like you say, each day was a contrast, from high snow covered mountain forest, to scorched desert, winding mountain roads to 80 mile straights, 24 degrees to 98 degrees - all in one day 8)

I had a friend from Edinburgh visiting over the weekend and, with summer having arrived at last, we had some pleasant drives in the D3.
The first photo shows the car at the Winklmoosalm, near Reit im Winkl in Bavaria. The mountains in the background are the Loferer Steinberge.
On Sunday, after driving most of the way, we then walked up to the Streichenkirche, which is situated above Schleching. To my surprise, just as we arrived, so did another D3, with a Cologne registration. It was a Bonatti grey TDV6 HSE. I chatted briefly with the owner and discovered that he had had a good deal of trouble with the car or, at least, the previous one. That had been towed in 13 times! I must say that I have had no real problems yet and have now done more than 11000 kms since March.
Finally, yesterday, we drove on to the Müllneralm, which is situated on the ski slopes of St. Johann im Tirol, above Oberndorf. It was very pleasant having lunch there, looking out at the Wilder Kaiser mountains.

Today, I went to Leicestershire
Cosby to be precise, and the notable thing was how many D3 I saw around there. Common as muck!

London (again)
Had a lovely drive down from Stockport to London as far as Hillingdon on the A40 this morning - saw a couple of D3's - then took me 90 minutes to do the bit down to Westminster - a broken down Golf in the outside lane of the A40 AND a broken down Oxford Tube Coach on the A40 at Acton - nightmare!!!!Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

daily wheels & play wheels
some of you may already appreciate having 2 sets of rims/tires, one for "touring" and daily driving and another set for playing/off road trips. I found that the very nice RR sport 20" 10 spokes are a perfect fit on the LR3, I have Toyo Proxes ST tires in 285/50 on them and it's like a race car with great traction in rain and I think "ok" in light snow too. of course during winter i'll probably just run the 18's with the Nitto Terra grapplers. The RR 20's are beautiful though and nicely fill out the wheel well & body shape.96 Disco I, 210,000 miles - still going strong

I now have a spare set of 17's, and they have been on the car for a while now. My 19's are in the garage, and need sending away for refinishing. Not had time to sort it out though.
I have a problem jacking the car at home, my trolley jack sinks into the ground instead of lifting the car So changing wheels is a lengthy process involving shoving paving slabs around to sit the jack on.
New house I am moving to has a concrete hard-standing, so should be easier.

That is my issue with spare sets of wheels the aggro of changing them. So are the RRS 19" wheels suitable for the D3?DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
DS3 TDV6 HSE- Silver with Alpaca (new one) Gone
D4 HSE Lux - Montalcino Red Gone
Porsche Cayenne V8 Diesel S
Yes they are but the tyres that come on them as standard aren't ideal
With a decent trolly jack it only takes about 20mins to change all 4 wheels once you've done it a few timesThe End
