On a serious note... when we had the RRS2, other half was loading something into the back and for some reason the tailgate didn't fully open resulting in much swearing and blood loss. It only happened once but we learnt the hard way!

This was Land Rover North America's solution at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show. Duct tape. Color coordinated duct tape.

Duct tape is just so the blood doesn't stain the paintwork. Whistle

The Orange ones duct tape also clearly visible Shocked

The rear would look slightly better if the plastic bumper was flush all the way round, not just at the corners.

thats really bad.

LR surely wouldn't have let them do that unless someones caught themselves on it resulting in injury. Being in the US they are probably worried about getting sued!

If LR put the tape on to protect people viewing then by doing so they are acknowledging a problem. If they didn't and it was the local LR/event people they will get shot by head office as its admitting a problem.

Similar occurred to me ref my RRS2. One of the dogs tried to jump out before the tailgate fully opened, so it then stopped halfway, and I hit my head on the edge.
Another issue occurred on the RRS2, twice actually, which I reported to JLR, and I don't know if this is the same on the D5, when one of the spaniels jumped out in from the middle of the boot, catching a paw in the spring loaded well, where there is a u shaped catch which the top gate slams into. Thus ripping off 2 nails and huge pain. Bizarrely the 2nd Spaniel did exactly the same a year later . Maybe that is why there is the electric drop down shelf to cover up the well on the D5...
Anyway, I had placed a deposit on a D5 last April which has now been refunded as it doesn't really work for me, visually and I was a bit disappointed with the engine choice.
A neighbour of mine has just taken delivery of a Porsche Macan. Interior quality of the leather and infotainment is vastly superior to the RRS2. It maybe too small for me, but a new Cayenne arrives in a year so this may be the way to go for me.

If everything is flush it's going to look even taller at the back - anything to distract from that is probably a good thing. Actually, the rear of those US cars already look a different shape to the UK ones I've seen... particularly the silver undertray / nappy / tena pad looking bit.

Or is that just a different shape for a different spec? (HSE = full nappy) Laughing

I think it's something to do with the tow bar options as to what rear bumper you get, I think.
