The information that petersw posted, shows the bracing fitted to the All New Range Rover (page 24), so its not just on the D5.

Yes
That was going to be my point.
A few years ago, so not sure how it would hold up production on D5's

D5 impression after a quick look today.....
I will start by saying I REARLY REARLY wanted to like the d5 and I am fairly unbiased in general on cars as I do know what one person likes another may not.
I'm no expert on the marque but have had a discovery d4 hse black pack from new in 2013 and covered a meagre 33k in it.
It has been a truly delightful car to own - the end.
Having to have its fourth service today and me knowing that by July of this year a change must happen the chance to look at the d5 was snapped up.
We have been looking at RRSports but have not committed to anything as we new we wanted to seduced by the new disco 5.
I will keep this reasonably short as I am sure other people have gone into great depths on this and other threads on the specs/weights/capabilities, what it's lost or gained etc etc
There is something about a car that when you see it, sit in it, and drive it will almost instantly make you smile and give you that I REARLY WANT THIS CAR feeling.
I can usually tell within 30seconds of seeing and sitting in a car whether I will be buying it...
So swinging into the prep centre to be faced with a black d5 I was READY to fall for it...BUT
FOR ME PERSONALLY the d5 just doesn't have that look or stir that emotion in me that the d4 managed to do 4 years ago.....
I'm gutted but it wasn't just me, my wife said exactly the same and funnily enough another couple also looking at it where positively angry (which I found quite funny) that it was so so sober ...
I can go on about how parts of the car are nice (like the new touchscreen info system) and how bad some things are like the rear seating etc, but the one thing that gets my money is the way a car makes you feel, and for me anyway the d5 just doesn't do it and i am truly gutted having to say that.
It just looked too much like the discovery sport but I suppose LR do have to follow a family suit....
I am sure the car will be a big success and I REARLY do not want anyone who's ordered one to feel I am slating there car, I'm not, it's just not the car for me anymore,,,,
I think the next car will have to be FFR or a RRS .... lol, maybe that's what they wanted all along ....

Sounds like your in my situation, a serial D3/4 owner of over 10 years and i was pretty complacent/excited about the D5 even placing a deposit. We then went to see it and whilst i liked the look of it i felt absolutely nothing of for it.
On a practical note, SWMBO was the biggest surprise. she doesn't give a hoot about cars but after having D3/4s for so long and them fitting the bill so well she ripped into the D5 in many ways. She was angry and i mean really angry especially at one stage when the LR guys tried to convince her the boot was just as practical as the D4 where she then demanded they let us back ours into the showroom to compare and they refused
That said I may well still order one but SWMBO wants us to keep the D4 as well for the dogs and holidays or get something totally different.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Still think if it had the boot/tailgate/bumper of the Range Rover i think more of us would probably enjoy it more visually.

In the same situation
Swmbo loves her D4 and was looking forward to the D5 but doesn't like it and didnt get the wow factor on first impression.
Now she saying she wants to keep the D4 although the new RR coming soon may be an option.
She likes the RRS but doesn't like the boot! Loves the split tailgate on the D4 and would rather stay with it.
My worry is the mileage has gone over 100,000 so no more warranty

I can relate to that. It's the flat denial by LR of observable facts that grates so much.
If LR were to say "yes, we know it's not as practical or distinctive as your current car but, if we are to double our sales volumes, we're going to need to appeal to a much wider and less specialised audience. If that means that we need to build something that alienates all you carrot crunchers, but instantly appeals to the many city dwelling professionals, that would usually buy German, then so be it!" then an amount of respect would be due

Well said. I've been waiting for the D5 for a while. I didn't change my D3 for a D4 becuase I saw little value in the upgrade. I was really excited to be invited to see the D5 and went with my daughters to see it. I was expecting to buy one on the night.
Disapointed is an understatement. I felt so let down by the packaging / design and I wasn't alone. However, what got my goat up was the bull coming from the sales guy about how it was as big and parctical as the current model and the arrogance of the LR rep was there. The non split tale gate flap thing is not as useful as the split tail gate, however may times you try and tell me it is!
The best bit for me was my 16 year old daughter who decided to go get a tape measure and compare various measurments from my car and the D5 and then ask the sales guy to justify his comments. He couldn't. Sadly for him, she made him look a pratt in front of several customers who had exactly the same perspectice on the size and practicality.
LR if you are reading this, please don't give us bull, just tell us as it is. I don't doubt its off road ability, but don't tell me it is as practical and use odd measurements to try and prove it. It isn't, although I'm sure you'll sell many.
