Is this the one for me? Update... Indeed it is!

Hello all!

Advice? Have been looking for my D3 for some time now and I ran across one that I just am not absoutely certain about.

Its a 05 SE V8. Asking price is 9k CAD. It comes with a stack of work done over the past number of years amounting to around 13k.

Just done compressor, brakes, belts and hoses. No accidents, unknown number of owners, mileage is 168k KMs.

Suspension bushings were done, alternator, thermostat, all done. It drives and rides very very well. All settings work. All electronics work apart from the drivers side heated seat, and the sun roof.

So I believe 8k will buy the vehicle which is around 4-5k less than others in my area. The reason is the vehicle presents poorly inside as it has a ripped arm rest, broken ashtray, and the light console has been taken out to look at the sun roof.

My suspicion is the sunroof needs a reset due to a battery replacement (the old 20s trick to recalibrate).
The other is purely cosmetic.

Shifts cleanly in all modes, all ride heights work, all displays light up correctly, no warning lights of any sort. I drove it and it accelerates cleanly, no pulling, tracks straight and feels really damn tight.

Worth taking a chance? Entry is low, I believe the two people that did look at it were scared by the interior parts and another thought it was a v6. The lack of knowing where it was before this last owner of 6 years is a tad worrying, but then, what car doesnt have some sort of a history.

Yes, No, RUN? Smile Ty all so very much!

Sounds good for the age, although it'd be good to get my owner history. The interior bits shouldn't cost too much to replace, particularly if you look at second hand/used parts from breakers etc.

Not sure on the sunroof, but yes it could be just a reset.

Good luck with it Thumbs Up

Ty kindly for the reply.

I pulled a carfax this morning. 3 owners including the current. 3yrs a piece and the last for almost 6.

Also found an alternator, battery, and front wind shield replacement with in the year.

It does sound like she's had a lot of the usual things done already and just needs a little TLC to tidy up the looks Thumbs Up

Took the plunge.

What a machine. This is her on day one. Not glamorous and in need of a solid clean top to bottom.

The list of things to fix:
Broken arm rest,
Broken Sun Roof
Over head console broken and unattached
Passanger head lights broken
Headlights burned out (plus a whole bunch of other lights)
Broken Fuel filler latch
Missing number rear number plate mount
Hood open warning on and off
Alarm honk on lock

Day 1.
Power washed and Wind shield wipers replaced

Day 2.
Cut polished away alot of the scapes. Cleaned EVERYTHING with a toothbrush. Treated the leather and all surfaces. Sourced all the parts to fix the interior for $70 CAD.
Fixed: arm rest, fuel filler, headlights, lights, number plate

Day 3.
Had an idea that the switch for the sunroof was tucked away in the roof. Found it... Held the button for 20s for a reset... BINGO!
Fixed: sunroom, overhead console front and back, fixed lighter and outlet, more lights

Day 4.
Sourced RRSC 20" Factory Wheels. Installed to check look and fit. YES YES YES.
Fixed: Bonnet switch, which fixed the alarm issues

Day 5 (tommorow)
Tires. 265/50R20

Left to do:
Need a front and rear tow cover
Replace steering wheel... its rough. Anyone?
Fix drivers heated seat
Figure out backup sensors... i do not understand the noises...
Upgrade speakers perhaps
Transmission service, updated part and peace of mind
figure out bluetooth options
im sure there is more.......

Gotta love what a little hard work can create. Smile

Amazing transformation! Well done and sounds like a very canny buy!
Go for a heated steering wheel to replace yours though I presume that they are probably standard fare out there! They're brilliant! Very Happy

If its a continuous tone then one or more, or wiring is damaged, if you put in reverse and go close to each sensor you should hear it clicking away.

if it is intermittent tones then its working, the quicker it is the closer you are, stop before it gets continuous!

Looks a good buy considering everything.

Edit: just realised you've already fixed the bonnet switch Rolling Eyes

Thank you so much sirs!

That all helps alot.

I would love a heated wheel but there really are not many around on the salvage market so finding anything is next to impossible. But even a normal wheel would be more than enough. (if anyone has a source for a decent one I would love to chat! Smile )

Parking... Ok so that explains alot. Mine just beeps a long solid beep. Will diagnose further.

Appreciate all of the advice!

Re the heated wheel they do pop up on here for sale frequently when people trade in....easy conversion...just needs a power source from fuse box, the switch and a new steering coil springy wire thing whose name for the life of me I can't remember....

Makes looking forward to Winter holding a nice warm firm thing in your hands! Very Happy Very Happy

Day 5:

Tires. Went with Nitto NT421Q 265/50R20

Love every single thing about them. Apparently amazing in the rain/snow and I think the size is just perfect on these wheels. So glad I did this instead of the 275/40R20s which looked to scrawny. They ride so nicely and hold the road very well.

Ok so I lusted after Stormers for a very long time, but when these came up, well I took a chance. I thought that they would really fit the vehicles asthetics well. You know what? I love how they look and how it has come together! I think you guys would say chuffed... I am absolutely chuffed at how this thing is turning out Thumbs Up

Even might have bluetooth sorted. Gosh the stock system sounds bad though... might have to fix that.
