Not trying to get into a huge argument here, but if that were the case, then why have Land Rover not fitted a new engine, no quibble, into EVERY 2.7 that has had an oil pump failure?
And, has anyone had a snapped oil pump casing with the newer, modified pump?

Key thing would be within warranty, be it original or the two year warranty of the part that failed. No warranty, no automatic liability so hence you enter the total LRCS claim lottery.

As disco mikey says surely land rover should change every broken part that has broken due to a badly made pump but they don't do they. Warrantee or not is it not a design fault Discovery 3 se gone

The thing I would be interested in is, if I had an o/e oil pump fitted by flack or geoff supplied by a/f and it failed writing of my entire engine, is who exactly would foot the several thousand bill for the replacement engine?
Oldish car.
Parts supplied by one man.
Parts fitted by another man.
What is the situation with parts supplied by a specialist parts distributer, such as Euro Car Parts to mention just one, when they are supplying a branded item that is intended for fitting to vehicles from a number of different automotive brands?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
Guys you can theorise all you like, at the end of the day If I do the work and fit the parts, you the customer are going to come straight back to me if anything goes wrong.Not LR or whoever supplied the parts.
Just imagine if it did fail and I go to LR and say your pump I fitted has failed, they then ask for said receipt of the part that was used, I produce a receipt from Pug/Citroen for said part LR are going to say on your bike son..
Then I am left to pickup the pieces. Lets not forget, if the pump fails it takes the engine with it, so we are not just looking at a new pump being fitted, we are looking at close on to 6k.
Neither I nor Geoff are willing to put ourselves in that situation, so its a LR OEM Oil pump casing gettting fitted or we do not undertake the work simple as.

I'm booked in for the next cam belt weekend at Geoffs and I have no problem with Geoff and Flacks stance on this.
If it needs the pump replacing (it's my 09) I'll pay for the LR one.Arthur.

Yep, I think it is great the Geoff & Mick are making their position clear and given the potential costs and pitfalls should it all go wrong makes it totally understandable - especially from two top blokes.
As with everything in life you pay your money and take your choice. I would not hesitate fitting the Citroen part in preference to retaining the old style pump myself, but it is a matter of choice.

i make you right Robbie both mick and myself have spoken about it and if it was our own veh we quite possibly would fit a pug/citroen pump because its our veh,s ,
but under no circumstances are we prepared to take the smallest of chances with our customers cars that is quite simple

Yes I would not hesitate to fit a Pug/Citroen Oil pump casing on my own car, its my decision and my risk, but we are not willing to compromise on a customers car for such an important part with serious consequences if anything was to go wrong.

All seem to be fair points but have any of the newer style pumps failed and if you let the customer know how you feel and the risk.Then they alone should be able to make the judgement with no comeback on you two which is fine if they accept as it seems most people would use them but some wont take a risk.Surely the customer should also be consulted as i believe we are talking almost twice the price for what is after all the same product near enoughDiscovery 3 se gone
