Out of interest, how much is it to refill the tank, is it a dealer job or something any old fool can do? Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Just to add to what you said, I've just paid £11.00 for 10 litres of AdBlue at a Morrison's forecourt and it's no more difficult to fill the tank than it is to put petrol in the lawn mower! I put in 5 litres and it added around 4,000 miles to the AdBlue tank range. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I'm surprised Pete Bell hasn't made a file to switch the Ad Blue off. The system will be fine while under warranty, but it will be mega bucks to repair if it gives problems after the warranty period runs out.

My understanding is that dealers should fill or top-up the AdBlue at the PDI, and then fill or top-up at subsequent services whilst in warranty, and between services as, it was said, the system is designed to not need topping-up between services.
As MarkOne says no doubt it will be very expensive to repair should it go wrong out of warranty.

The system may be "designed to not need filling up between services" but it doesn't come close to working in practice; I can assure you that at just 10,000 miles mine had less than 2,000 miles remaining in the AdBlue tank. I know that they will fill it for free at the service but, when I phoned the dealer to ask about the "free top up", the service department knew nothing of that.
Besides, why should I bother the dealer, or do the 60 mile round trip, when it only cost about a fiver and took about a minute to put it in the tank? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

It's true; unfortunately every time there's a new method to help to control some of the filthy, toxic, emissions from diesels, there's someone ready to make a living from removing it 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Can only be used off road, the vehicle must comply with its designed EU regulations whilst on it.
I can list God knows how many parts that are more troublesome on the Discovery than the AdBlue system. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

On the trucks the ad-blue/exhaust system has a 450 day memory that cannot be cleared by the average tech even with the factory lap top, you have to get special codes etc from the factory to clear it down before the 450 days are up.
Apparently has to have it by law, have never heard of anyone being checked for faults, but if you have an emulator and the truck thinks all is fine I dont know how anybody roadside can check otherwise.

Seen my first Adblue scavenger the other day, was at the petrol station when a VW did a change of exit route and stopped, popped his bonnet and filled his Adblue from a 20L container that a trucker had forgotten to take with him. He did leave it there for someone else to benefit
May not be laughing if he finds out it was full of water IID PRO
